New Mexican Caught in a 'Catch-420'

The Border Patrol forces a medical marijuana patient to break a law every time he passes a checkpoint, the man claims in Federal Court.

The only choice he has, Raymundo Marrufo says, is whether to violate a state law or a federal one.

Marrufo suffers from PTSD and has been prescribed medical marijuana under the Lynn and Erin Compassionate Use Act, New Mexico's medical marijuana program. To get his medicine, Marrufo must drive past a permanent Border Patrol checkpoint. There, a Border Patrolman asks him: "Do you have any illegal drugs?"

Potbot Is The Budtender Of The Future

Domo arigato, meet Mr. Budtender Roboto. We don't want you to think we endorse tech innovations that take job opportunities away from your favorite neighborhood budtender, but this app is a pretty cool and potentially useful innovation.

Can the Government Keep up With Changing Cannabis Laws?

The times are changing: will the government be able to keep up?

Cities coast to coast are seeing cannabis vapour lounges, dispensaries, and advocacy agencies entering the market, some operating in a legal grey zone.

A result of slowly changing cannabis laws, combined with a less-than-meaningful enforcement regime, have to come to suggested these new entrepreneurial activities have received less than tacit approval.

The Medical Side of Dabbing

By

I wrote an article for Harborside Health Center’s newsletter, Illuminator, questioning whether the practice was a wellness-oriented use of cannabis. I had no idea what I was in for. Both mine and Harborside’s Facebook pages lit up.

Why the Biotech Market is Looking to Cannabis for the Future

It’s possible that there has been no greater contributor to the cultural shift currently occurring around cannabis use in North America than the growing understanding of its medical applications.

Marijuana has long carried an unfair stigma resulting from fear and hysteria rather than an inherent danger derived from its effects. For many, it was plain to see that marijuana’s classification as a Schedule I drug didn’t really make much sense. However, as long as the argument for rescheduling centered on laxer laws for recreational use, gathering the sort of political and cultural consensus necessary for real change was an all-but impossible challenge.

Minnesota's decision on medical marijuana for pain looms

The Minnesota Health Department is set to announce whether it will expand the legal use of medical marijuana to cover people with intractable pain.

The department's top leaders were due to announce their decision Wednesday after several meetings around the state to gather public input.

Medical marijuana's use was restricted to just a handful of conditions when legislators approved it. That disappointed supporters of the drug and has held down enrollment, leading to higher costs for those using it.

A decision on wehther to add chronic pain had been legally required by Jan. 1.
