Cannabis for Autism: Michigan at the Forefront

In Michigan, residents are permitted to submit medical conditions to LARA (the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs) in order for the Michigan Medical Marihuana Review Panel to review whether there is ample evidence that cannabis may offer palliative relief in the treatment of that condition. It is the voter’s intent to protect those with debilitating medical conditions that may receive palliative relief from cannabis. When the panel is provided sufficient evidence, it is their mandate to ensure that new medical conditions be added to the list of qualifying conditions for medical cannabis.

Florida: Issue fines, not jail terms, for marijuana possession

In Miami-Dade County, officers may issue a civil citation for minor pot possession. A Palm Beach County commissioner is pushing for a similar change. (Photo courtesy Fotolia/TNS)

A wave of sanity is sweeping South Florida and it concerns, of all things, marijuana.

Miami-Dade County commissioners, supported by police, got things rolling on June 30 by giving law-enforcement officials the option of issuing $100 citations for possessing small amounts of pot, instead of charging people with a crime.

The city of Miami Beach, and Broward and Monroe counties are considering doing the same.

And Palm Beach County commissioners are looking into it, too.

More than 16,000 people fatally overdosed on prescription painkillers in 2013, accounting for 60% of all overdose deaths, according to the Center for Disease Control. But a new study suggests that some states have already stumbled onto a means of curbing this fatal epidemic: Easily-accessible marijuana.

Colorado edibles company recalls MaryMint Tincture after inspection

A Boulder company that manufactures cannabis-infused edibles has voluntarily initiated a state-wide recall on one of its products because of “a lack of temperature control during the manufacturing and distribution processes,” according to Denver’s Department of Environmental Health.

No illnesses have been attributed to the recall, the city confirmed.

The marijuana company, the Growing Kitchen, is recalling a breath spray product known as MaryMint Tincture after a Denver health inspector saw the product on the shelf of one of the city’s marijuana stores. The Growing Kitchen is asking stores and customers to destroy any remaining products, a number the edibles company estimates at around 60 packages.
