Bellingham: Medical marijuana business wants to meet with board

BELLINGHAM — A medical marijuana business is looking to plant seeds on Williams Way.

Beacon Compassion Center, one of the 50 new medical marijuana dispensary applicants that filed paperwork with the state in late June, will meet with the Board of Selectmen Monday on its plans to grow and process medical marijuana here.

President Rina Cametti and Executive Director Steve Angelo of Walpole hope to grow marijuana for three dispensaries, including one in Framingham, out of a 34,000-square-foot warehouse in the Williams Way industrial park.

Cametti and Angelo met with the Board of Health recently and will meet with selectmen seeking a letter of support.

Letter: Uncle Sam says no to marijuana

Looks like someone other than myself votes "No" on this November's likely ballot issue seeking a constitutional amendment legalizing the personal use and growth of marijuana in Ohio. This "No" voter is Uncle Sam in the embodiment of the Internal Revenue Service. Let me explain.

Marijuana is still classified on federal drug schedules as a "Schedule I" controlled substance. Thus, under federal law, the sale of marijuana remains illegal. A recent newspaper article highlighted a story that a famous boy band star and other luminaries may invest in a pot-growing center to be located in Hudson.

Pot investors, try this one on for size:

Pot for kids? Some parents say it's good medicine

Some parents of severely ill children say that prescription drugs expose their kids to dangerous side effects. Some want to try medical marijuana, and they seek wider access to the drug in Michigan.

Bella Chinoni is given one of her three daily doses of CBD-concentrated olive oil. Dad Denny Chinonis says Bella’s eye contact now “is getting stronger.”

In Grand Blanc, near Flint, a family gives daily doses of olive oil infused with medical marijuana to their 6-year-old daughter afflicted with a life-threatening seizure disorder.

People sit at a seminar for medical marijuana in a hotel in Quincy. QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -

A workshop for people looking to work in the medical marijuana business was held Saturday at the Town N Country Inn and Suites in Quincy.

Herbal Remedies Dispensary Manager Andy Schnack says Saturday was meant to educate people on what it means to work in a dispensary and what information potential employees would need to know when it comes to recommending products to patients.

Schnack says there was a small exam at the end of workshop and those who passed received a certificate of completion.

Elgin council members open to decriminalzing marijuana

Elgin will take a serious look at decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana after city council members said Saturday they were amenable to the idea.

Councilwoman Tish Powell is proposing handling such cases under the city's administrative adjudication process, which means people would not get arrested but instead get a ticket and have to pay a fine.

The current punishment for misdemeanor marijuana possession is too harsh, Councilwoman Carol Rauschenberger said during a special committee of the whole meeting Saturday. "We're just being proactive with what's changing in America, and what's changing in our community."

Weed Entrepreneurs Woo Women in Bid to End the Ganja Gender Gap

When Jazmin Hupp was searching for a container for her marijuana at the Cannabis Cup trade show in Denver, all she could find were boring, utilitarian glass jars.

So she asked a vendor at one of the booths if he had anything more elegant. He offered to make her a jar in pink.

Her immediate conclusion: “You guys need some help.”

Hupp’s experience may shed some light on why women account for only about a third of heavy and moderate cannabis users, even as they make up about half of occasional consumers, according to the Brightfield Group, a market-research firm. Women like Hupp say that’s partly because current pot purveyors aren’t offering the products they want and are marketing in ways that annoy them.

Medical weed collides with workplace drug testing

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Hawaii's medical marijuana law doesn't automatically protect a patient whose results come up positive during random drug testing by their employer.
"If they have a zero-tolerance policy for drug use they can still fire you," Rep. Karl Rhoads said.

Rhoads chairs the House Judiciary Committee. He said under state law medical marijuana users have no workplace protection, plus the federal government considers cannabis a Schedule 1 narcotic.

"There's going to continue to be tension between states that have at least partially legalized pakalolo and the federal government. And this is an area where it crops up very prominently," he said.
