Can small businesses really cash in on the legal pot boom?

When Washington state legalized recreational marijuana, libertarian James Lathrop saw running a dispensary as something of a political duty. Indeed, Lathrop, the owner of Cannabis City, Seattle's first legal pot shop, is known for declaring "free the weed" just before opening his doors on July 8, 2014.

Balancing Cannabis Advocacy with Your Business Model

Sincere intentions lead to meaningful industry connections. The cannabis industry serves so many different types of people, it was almost a given that this community would eventually begin to polarize. We are seeing this divide now as more pro-cannabis campaigns ramp up nationwide.

There are some activists who believe that “no regulation is the best regulation,” and likewise there are entrepreneurs who would sacrifice all humanistic elements of this legacy industry in order to turn a profit. Neither are helping the movement, and luckily, both are rare.

Kamloops council to consider medical marijuana grow-op rezoning request

A medical marijuana grow operation could be coming to Kamloops.

At its Tuesday meeting, council will be asked to approve a public hearing on whether to rezone a warehouse at 8170 Dallas Dr. for growing medicinal pot.

The warehouse, located on the north side of Dallas Dr. in the Gateway Industrial Park, would need to be rezoned from industrial park to general industrial, in line with marijuana-growing rules the city set up in 2013.

In a report to council, planner Stephen Bentley said the operation would fit with the city’s official community plan and recommends the city move ahead with the public hearing.

Leaf Allows Home Growers to Grow Cannabis Without the Guesswork

Leaf is an automated device for cultivating weed that keeps an eye on the water levels, humidity, and air temperature of your crop

Back in the day, home growers of marijuana had to learn about horticulture, build greenhouses or rig sunlamps, experiment with fertilizers and feeding charts and soil acidity—all while keeping the crop hidden from prying eyes. As many areas change the laws restricting use of cannabis—a topic further discussed in our Sex, Drugs and Alcohol Debrief—however, home growers are demanding modern equipment to help them, and that’s where Leaf by Corsica Innovations comes in.

The Pot Scientist Explains All, Via YouTube

Trained scientist Carter Baird has created a quirky online persona, with the mission of educating the public about cannabis and the legal marijuana industry.

~

Carter Baird seems genuinely surprised at some of the questions he has fielded in his short tenure as The Pot Scientist. While wandering around Denver’s 16th Street pedestrian mall in a lab coat, Baird coaxes both Colorado residents and tourists alike to come up with any queries they might have about cannabis.

And a lot of those questions, he tells WeedWorthy, have to do with popular misconceptions; such as whether marijuana consumption can make men sterile.

Could Ohioans Say 'Yes' To Cannabis But 'No' To Nick Lachey?

Following a September 25th debate on legalizing cannabis in Cincinnati, the majority of those who took part in a straw poll voted for legalization but against Issue 3 - a controversial motion that would grant an exclusive license to 10 legal growers in the state.

Afterward, the 124 attendees cast their votes: 86 voted for legalization, but not Issue 3; 36 supported Issue 3, and 2 voted against both. Admittedly, the same size is pretty small - but it's far from certain that Issue 3 will pass November 3rd in the statewide vote, even if the majority of people favour legalization.

Weakness in This Cannabis Social Network Creates Opportunity

Over the last week, the market has seen MassRoots, Inc. (MSRT) fall 17% and this weakness has created a great opportunity for investors. The market significantly undervalues MSRT's underlying intellectual property, which the company continues to enhance and develop through strategic partnerships.

When investing in cannabis stocks, investors need to be cautious. Many of these companies offer a product which can be easily replicated by another business. This is not the case for MSRT. The company not only has a first move advantage, but its technology is protected by patents and would be very difficult to replicate.
