Tribes: Let's Learn About Medicinal Cannabis

Tribes are posed with a dilemma - whether the cannabis plant offers Tribes and their members a chance to enter into the Universe of Healing through the Great Spirit’s plants or whether we will keep our “mind set” closed to growing this medicine plant. I strongly urge Tribes and Tribal Peoples to learn about the healing properties of the cannabis plant and not just condemn it.

NY City Council Unanimously Votes to Approve K2 Synthetic Weed Ban

A set of three bills were unanimously passed this week to ban and impose stricter penalties on the sale of synthetic cannabis, commonly known as K2.

The three new bills are meant to combat the epidemic, and were passed by a 44-0 vote in a council meeting. One bill bans the sale of the synthetic drug, as well as criminalizes it. The second ensures anyone caught selling K2 will have their cigarette dealer license suspended. The third bill is meant to complement police crackdown on the chemical weed by allowing NYPD to use public nuisance regulations to put the pressure on any place making or selling the drug.

A 'deal with the devil'? Native American tribes push for marijuana legalization

Two Wisconsin tribes, the Menominee and the Ho-Chunk, look to follow South Dakota’s Flandreau Santee Sioux, seeing a potential revenue stream – but it could force them to cede some of their sovereignty to federal and local governments

With 23 US states having legalized marijuana in some form – Oregon became the latest to permit the sale of marijuana for recreational on Thursday – some Native American nations are now also considering the possibility of legalizing the plant, in some cases because it could represent a revenue stream.

Marijuana is not legal at Oregon colleges, universities, despite new pot law

Wow, dude, you're going to college in Oregon? Pot is legal there! You can smoke a joint before Econ class, right?

Uh, wrong.

Wrong on so many levels: collegiate, federal and possibly state, for starters.

Legal sales of recreational marijuana to adults began Thursday in Oregon. But administrators of Oregon colleges and universities, both public and private, say nothing has changed or will change on their campuses because of the state's new pot law.

New club in Colorado Springs tests rules on marijuana social clubs

The One Love Club parking lot filled quickly after its doors opened Friday night. The new west-side pot social club is clear, on signs around the joint, that it does not sell marijuana.

It's a reimbursement system.

If that doesn't make sense to you, you're not alone. The Colorado Springs City Council imposed a six-month moratorium Sept. 22 on opening new cannabis clubs, which have long been unregulated in Colorado Springs. In many cases, people are given "free" pot in exchange for membership fees.

Syntthetic marijuana banned, but readily available

TAMPA - It’s banned, but it’s still being sold in local stores.

And all evidence points to the fact that synthetic marijuana is far more dangerous than many first thought.

“It's scary. It will destroy your brain,” said a local homeless woman we saw loitering in a park in downtown St. Petersburg.

She didn’t want to give her name, but told us she recently witnessed a man high on synthetic marijuana beat a brick wall with a baseball bat until his hands were splintered and bleeding.

The man told her he was fighting Satan.

“It brought the Satan out in me,” said former user William Jump, who said he often got in fights when he was high on the drug.

He was recently arrested for possession of the drug and vows never to use it again.

Any changes to marijuana laws must keep drivers in mind

There's plenty of speculation about our upcoming federal election, much of it frankly negative.

Politics is tough, especially when you weigh up the leaders and realize that finding someone who reflects all your values is almost impossible.

When the haranguing and arguing gets me down, I simply flip on a U.S. news channel, and take a good look at what our friends to the south are dealing with. It's like they're trying to elect a new village idiot, with a surfeit of contenders - by comparison, the Canadian election is a Care Bear Countdown.

Calgary city council eyes solutions to medical marijuana businesses

Calgary planners hope to draft bylaw amendments regulating medical marijuana counselling services by the end of the year in advance of a looming Supreme Court decision that could trigger similar businesses to proliferate across the city.

Councillors Diane Colley-Urquhart and Gian-Carlo Carra introduced a motion earlier this year asking administration to develop new rules to prevent such businesses from clustering in neighbourhoods and keep them away from schools.

Calgary’s existing business use and land-use bylaws don’t have a category to regulate medical marijuana counselling outfits — a service traditionally provided by doctors.

Washington state 'Kettle Falls Five' pot growers get federal prison terms

SPOKANE, Wash. — The three remaining defendants in the case of the so-called Kettle Falls Five were sentenced to federal prison on Friday for growing marijuana in a state where both the medical and recreational use of marijuana are legal under Washington laws.

The defendants are known as the Kettle Falls Five because of their original number. They were convicted earlier this year of growing marijuana on their rural property near Kettle Falls, in violation of federal law.
