St. Paul man charged in big marijuana operation

A St. Paul man was charged Tuesday in what authorities characterized as a “large-scale” marijuana distribution ring between California and Minnesota, involving several suspects and more than $1 million.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the investigation, declined to comment Tuesday or say whether more charges were expected.

But complaints against two men, along with several search warrant affidavits, offer a glimpse of the stealth operation. “This operation has seen thousands of one-pound packaged marijuana baggies being driven across country from California to Minnesota in rental cars,” said an affidavit filed Tuesday. “The investigation is being reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office, as the network is large and covers multiple states.”

Final vote split on Colorado Springs medical marijuana moratorium

The Colorado Springs City Council honored the three victims from the Halloween morning shooting with an Honor Guard. Matt Kerr with the CSPD carries the U.S. flag and Matt Minneman with the CSFD carries the Colorado flag through the crowd after a moment of silence for the victims, Jennifer Vasquez, Christy Baccus-Galella, and Andrew Myers. Myers was an Army veteran who served with Ft. Carson troops in Iraq and was gunned down while on a bicycle ride. Citizens concerned with aspects of the concealed weapons laws in Colorado Springs were present at the meeting and spoke during public comments on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Senate OKs Medical Pot for Veterans

The House rejected the idea by a razor-thin margin in April, but there's a chance it will slip into compromise legislation.

On the eve of Veterans Day, the Senate passed legislation Tuesday that would for the first time allow Veterans Health Administration doctors to authorize medical marijuana use for patients.

The Veterans Health Administration currently does not allow its physicians to discuss marijuana as a treatment option with patients in the nearly two dozen states with medical pot laws, forcing veterans to turn elsewhere for guidance and the paperwork necessary to acquire the drug.

South Dakota tribe burns marijuana crop

Fearing a federal raid, a South Dakota Native American tribe is burning its marijuana crop, which it had planned to sell in a resort on its land.

The "marijuana resort" would have been the first of its kind, but concerns that the stockpile could be confiscated led tribe leaders to incinerate it.

The tribe says it wants to show cooperation with federal officials for future negotiations.

Whether the tribe can sell marijuana to non-Indians has come under question.

Representatives for the US Department of Justice did not tell Santee Sioux tribe leaders a raid was imminent, but the government reserves a right to conduct a raid at any time and the tribe would risk one if all the concerns about the resort were not addressed.

GAMADES: Potential marijuana-funded scholarship a stepping stone to improve Colorado education system

Beginning in 2017, high school graduates in a Colorado county will be able to apply for a college scholarship funded by a marijuana tax.

Voters in Pueblo County approved a measure that would incrementally increase taxes on marijuana by 5 percent over the next five years in order to fund college scholarships and other community improvement projects. Funding education via a tax on a recreational drug is something Time called “a concept that probably would have been laughed off as a total joke just a few years ago.”

County officials believe this measure is the first of its nature and are hopeful that this program will allow more families in their community send their children to school.

Is Smoking Weed a Human Right?

Last week, just a day after voters in Ohio rejected a constitutional amendment to legalize the recreational and medical use of marijuana, Mexico’s Supreme Court headed in a different direction: The country’s top justices concluded that national laws making it illegal to personally produce, possess, and consume marijuana violated the rights of Mexicans. The ruling itself has received considerable attention, but the rationale behind it less so.

Mini joints: This Colorado mountain shop's idea is a huge success

SILVERTHORNE — Walk into any dispensary in Colorado, and you are likely to find one-gram joints for sale. Along with jars of flower, edibles and concentrates, the pre-rolls have become a staple for pot shops across the state.

At $10-$15, pre-rolls certainly offer customers value and convenience, but as a smokable product — particularly for one or two people — it’s a lot to handle in one sitting.

“We thought it would be really great to have something portable that had just enough for you and a few friends,” Andrew Salini, chief operating officer at High Country Healing, said in a recent interview.
