Marijuana Legalization Massachusetts 2016: Latest on State's Effort to Legalize Marijuana

According to the Marijuana Policy Project, Massachusetts could consider completely decriminalizing cannabis in 2016. Bill H.1561, which Rep. Dave Rogers and Sen. Patricia Jehlen co-introduced in March, would reorganize the laws in Massachusetts to regulate marijuana more like alcohol. But for the time being, Massachusetts has only decriminalized cannabis for medicinal purposes.

Oregon lawmakers hear about pesticides, edible serving sizes and marijuana tracking

The Oregon Department of Agriculture has identified 250 pesticides that marijuana producers may use to combat pests, mold and other problems common in the industry.

The pesticides on Oregon's list pose minimal risk to human health, according to the federal government, which sets pesticide policy nationally. Most pesticides approved for use in organic agriculture, for instance, would be allowed. Pesticides must list broad agricultural uses on their labels to be included on the state's list.

Research Shows Industrial Hemp Is More Versatile Than We Thought

The latest research from Denmark shows how industrial hemp can efficiently make chemicals normally produced from petroleum. New developments could push hemp to the forefront of a new wave of biorefinery technology that aims to use plants to produce fuel and chemicals that, up until now, we have extracted from fossil fuels.

New Jersey Teen with Epilepsy and Autism Wins Right to Take Medical Marijuana at School

Genny Barbour, a New Jersey teen with epilepsy and autism, will return to school full time after winning the fight to have the medical marijuana oil she needs administered to her at school, her mother tells PEOPLE.

"We never thought that it would happen," says Lora Barbour, Genny's mom. "It was Governor Christie who passed this bill. We thought we would have to battle everything through the court system."

Florida: Legislators may let terminally ill patients use marijuana

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida legislators may change the law to allow terminally ill patients to use marijuana.

A House panel on Tuesday approved a bill that would change the state's recently-enacted "Right to Try Act." That law allows patients with less than a year to live to take experimental drugs.

Supporters of the measure (HB 307) say terminally ill patients should have access to marijuana so they don't have to rely on drugs such as morphine to relieve their pain. Patients would not be allowed to smoke or inject pot.

'Big Marijuana' Does Not Scare Me, 'Big Marijuana' Done The Wrong Way Scares Me

The term ‘big marijuana’ is thrown around a lot these days. Kevin Sabet uses that term to try to scare voters. Longtime marijuana veterans often use the term to describe what they don’t want the growing marijuana industry to become because it will push out the little guy. People often offer up the tobacco industry and Wal-Mart, and other large industries and companies, as reasons why big marijuana should be avoided at all costs.

Think Tank Wants To Make Vermont The Home Of Cannabis R&D

The co-founders of the Phytosciences Institute, Willy Cats-Baril, Dr. Kalev Freeman, Monique McHenry, Tom Grace and Robin Grace, from left, are hoping to make Vermont a leader in medical marijuana research.

In 1996, California became the first state to legalize medical marijuana. Eleven years ago, Vermont followed suit. But doctors still know surprisingly little about the pharmacology of cannabis. And a Vermont-based think-tank is hoping to transform the industry by applying new scientific rigor to an old drug.

When you feel a headache coming on, or that sore back starts to act up, choosing a medical intervention is a pretty straightforward affair.

New Jersey legislators hold hearing on marijuana legalization

Advocates for marijuana legalization urged New Jersey legislators to reverse decades of prohibition Monday, testifying that legalization will bring regulation to an underground industry, boost tax revenue and help end racial disparity within the criminal justice system.

Each of the 10 panelists who testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee supported the legalization of marijuana, a policy shift enacted by four states and gaining traction elsewhere across the country.

Committee Chairman Nicholas Scutari is backing a bill that could make New Jersey the fifth state to legalize marijuana, joining Alaska, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. But he acknowledged passing such a law will be a long process.

AMA: Marijuana use during pregnancy could pose risks, warnings needed

CHICAGO – Warning: Marijuana use during pregnancy and breast-feeding poses potential harms.

That message would be written on medical and recreational marijuana products and posted wherever they’re sold if the nation’s most influential doctors group has its way.

The American Medical Association agreed Monday to push for regulations requiring such warnings be written on medical and recreational pot products and posted wherever they’re sold. The decision was made based on studies suggesting marijuana use may be linked with low birth weight, premature birth and behaviour problems in young children.

Critics say evidence of harm is weak, but while advocates agree that more research is needed, they say erring on the side of caution makes sense.

5 Things to Know Before You Interview With a Cannabis Company

I was a successful leader of one of the largest consulting firms in the world. I coached some of the world’s top business leaders. Then I left corporate America to work in the cannabis industry, where I assumed my decade-plus of leadership experience, corporate design knowledge and other skills would be of value.

I was both right and wrong.

To be sure, many of the people I met in the industry appreciated the help I could offer their emerging companies. But it was my initial approach, and my lack of intimate knowledge of the industry and culture, that nearly killed my budding -- no pun intended -- new career. So, I began working around the clock to make myself expert in this new industry.
