Intractable? Key word in medical marijuana expansion

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — One word carries a lot of weight in Minnesota health officials' decision to expand its medical marijuana to pain patients: intractable.

The state's definition of what qualifies as "intractable pain" has big implications starting in August for how many new people will begin buying via the state program.

Here's a look at what that means for the state's struggling program and the people who hope to buy medical marijuana to soothe their pain.

WHAT DOES INTRACTABLE MEAN?

Medical marijuana has been strictly defined under Minnesota's law, and that continues with intractable pain.

The country passing Montana by on medical marijuana

Some have characterized the loss of the marijuana legalization initiative in Ohio as an indicator of lack of support for the issue. However, what the defeat of the initiative reveals is the intent of citizens not just to make “pot” legal, but to do it right. In fact, the lack of support for the initiative indicated an unwillingness to carry forward an exploitive model from prohibition into the legal market.

Ten investment groups were behind the Ohio initiative and were its beneficiaries. The title of the initiative called the business model a “monopoly.” We can’t know how a different model might have fared, but it has been widely reported that large numbers of those in Ohio who support legalization couldn’t support the “monopoly” created by this initiative.

Rally held in support of recently-raided Mission marijuana dispensary

Dozens rallied in Mission on Saturday, a few weeks after RCMP officers executed search warrants on a store selling marijuana products.

The couple operating The BC Pain Society said they don’t know why they were targeted, but speculate it’s connected to other recent police raids in the province.

“How can we be punished for helping?’ asked Dawn Parker, whose husband operates the store. “We don’t make a lot of money.”

Cops seize shipping container on Brooklyn waterfront with 290 pounds of marijuana, mushrooms ...

Cops received a tip that a shipment of drugs would be coming in from Seattle, and found 290 pounds of marijuana and mushrooms in a shipping container.

Seattle sent a slew of drugs our way — more than 290 pounds of marijuana and mushrooms.

Cops seized a shipping container on the Brooklyn waterfront loaded with wacky weed and other drugs, law enforcement sources said Saturday.

Cops found the container at a Maspeth Ave. dock in East Williamsburg near the Newtown Creek on Wednesday after Homeland Security tipped them off that a cargo container full of drugs was coming to Brooklyn from Seattle.

On Thursday evening, cops watched as two men and a woman pulled up in a U-Haul truck and a Hyundai.

New medical marijuana business holds open house

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - A new medical marijuana business held an open house Friday evening.

Oasis Medical Cannabis is located on Industrial Road, just south of Wyoming Avenue. The open house also included a fundraiser for the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada.

The open house allowed members of the public to tour the facilities. Medical marijuana patients with valid cards will be only let in after the dispensary opens.

Oasis has a few more hoops to jump through before they can open next week. They have inspections from the state and the city. Once they get the green light, they can get the product and start selling to patients.
