Lawmakers Question Postal Service About Marijuana Ad Threats to Newspapers

A group of members of Congress is demanding the U.S. Postal Service explain a memo it recently issued warning newspapers not to mail any publications containing advertisements for marijuana.

“It appears a clarification of USPS policy is needed for state-legal marijuana businesses who seek to mail advertisements, as well as newspapers or periodicals that may run ads from marijuana businesses and who rely on the Postal Service to distribute their publications,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter on Thursday.

Former WWE Star Val Venis Now Goes by the Name “Kaptain Kannabis” and Sells Medical Marijuana

Remember WWE star Val “Helloooooo, ladies!” Venis? Yeah, you do. He spent about a decade playing the role of a “former porn star” and making appearances in little more than a towel. He was also a big weed advocate during his final days with the company and, after leaving, said he’d never return to the WWE if they didn’t stop testing wrestlers for weed. If you somehow don’t remember him, we’ve included his first promo (NSFW alert!) in the clip above.

Pharmaceutical cannabidiol shows promise for children with severe epilepsy

Around the globe there is high interest in the use of cannabidiol (CBD), a type of cannabinoid, for the treatment of people with epilepsy, especially children who have treatment-resistant forms of the disorder such as Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) and Dravet Syndrome (DS). Three studies presented at the American Epilepsy Society’s 69th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia highlight emerging efficacy and safety data of Epidiolex, a pharmaceutical liquid formulation of cannabidiol, which is currently undergoing U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized Phase 3 pivotal clinical trials in the United States and across the globe by GW Pharmaceuticals. A fourth study highlights possible interactions of CBD with existing anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) in animal models of seizures.

Medical marijuana maker Vireo Health sets its sights on FDA

Vireo Health touts cannabis as an alternative to opioids for pain

As an emergency room doctor, Kyle Kingsley felt frustration at seeing the drug-addicted patients return to his ER over and over, trying to find a doctor who would prescribe them more opioid painkillers.

Those pain pills cause twice as many deaths in Minnesota as street heroin, even though both are made from same plant, the poppy. Now Kingsley is hoping to use a different plant — cannabis — to divert pain patients from opioids to marijuana drugs. But the ambitious plan will require approval from one of the toughest bureaucracies on the planet: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The end of US marijuana prohibition is closer than you think

Rob Kampia thinks so, and he’s a very well-placed observer. As head of the Marijuana Policy Project, Kampia has his finger on the pulse of pot politics as well as anyone, and he made a pretty startling prediction at the International Drug Reform Conference in suburban Washington last weekend.

At a panel on “Marijuana Reform in Congress,” Kampia suggested that a handful of state-level marijuana legalization victories next year is going to set in motion a congressional debate on legalization that could see an end to federal marijuana prohibition before the end of the decade.

When AJ Gentile, his wife Jennifer and his brother Gene started making marijuana-infused gummy bears in 2011, the cannabis laws of California were more like guidelines than detailed regulations. “We did everything by the book,” said AJ, “but we were always worried a squad in blue FBI or DEA windbreakers would burst through the door to put us out of business and throw us in jail.”

An Alarming New Marijuana Study Raises an Important Point

This new study out of London may shift the benefits-versus-risk profile of marijuana in the wrong direction.

For all intents and purposes marijuana legalization has been a practically unstoppable force for the better part of two decades.

Marijuana's tug of war with Congress
Although we've witnessed a couple of rare defeats -- such as Florida's failed medical marijuana amendment in 2014, which missed out on a passing vote by just 2%, and Ohio's Issue 3, which was steamrolled in last month's elections -- marijuana's influence and the public's perception of the drug have grown at a remarkable pace.
