Bill C-45 is the catalyst the industry has been awaiting for several years, GMP says

There’s a strong likelihood that Canada’s Cannabis Act will get approved this summer, says GMP Securities’ Martin Landry, who in an update to clients on Tuesday said that Canada’s marijuana stocks should rally on news of the Senate passing Bill C-45, scheduled for third reading on June 7.

Landry says that on Monday, GMP met with representatives from Global Public Affairs, a firm which has been involved in Canada’s emerging cannabis space, who related that there is high likelihood that the Cannabis Act will receive Royal Assent (GPA gave it a roughly 85 per cent chance of success).

Effects of cannabis use on youth: can we predict the future?

With Canada on the brink of legalizing recreational marijuana, new findings by University of Victoria psychologist Bonnie Leadbeater and lead author Kara Thompson at St. Francis Xavier University have identified specific patterns of cannabis use by youth.

“Our hope is that this work sheds light on how young Canadians use cannabis across adolescence and young adulthood,” says Leadbeater, who participated in the studies with Thompson and two other researchers. “We now understand better what predicts different patterns of use and how these patterns contribute to mental health and well-being of youth.”

Curativa Cannabis to retail cannabis in NB

The indication from one of the successful applicants for a cannabis retail permit in North Battleford is they want to be ready to go as soon as possible.

That is the word from James Davey, president and CEO of Envirosafe Chemicals Canada Ltd., which was selected June 1 for one of North Battleford’s two cannabis retail permits by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority.

The company has its headquarters in North Battleford. They will be retailing under the name Curativa Cannabis.

“Curativa Cannabis will be our marketing and trade name,” said Davey. A webpage, curativacannabis.com, is already up, which will provide some background of their plans for the product.

Everything you wanted to know about cannabis legalization ... but forgot to ask

Where can you buy it? Can you grow your own? Can you smoke and drive? And will Canada legalize other drugs now, too?

When can I buy it?

We’re not sure. Probably late summer or early autumn.

The government had intended for recreational marijuana use to be legalized by 1 July 2018. Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act, passed its third reading in the House of Commons last fall, and Trudeau has emphasised that it will be implemented without delay.

Youths sharing a joint with minors shouldn't be free of legal consequence: Senate

There should be some legal consequences for youths who share a joint with a minor once recreational marijuana is legalized in Canada, the Senate decided Tuesday.

Senators voted 42-31 to approve an amendment to Bill C-45 that would make it a summary or ticketing offence for a young adult to share five grams or less of cannabis with a minor who is no more than two years younger; it would be an indictable offence to share with younger minors or to share more than five grams.

Pot vending machines: Dartmouth company wants to improve access to cannabis

Dispension Industries holds the Canadian distribution rights for a technology designed to deliver regulated products in a secure manner.

A Dartmouth company is hoping one day Nova Scotians will be allowed to get cannabis from a vending machine that would only dispense pot to verified customers.

Dispension Industries holds the Canadian distribution rights for a technology designed to deliver regulated products in a secure manner.

"The way we do that is by implementing a dispensing system that verifies a person's identity by using their vascular imprint, which is the vein pattern, to give them access to the regulated products kept inside," explained co-founder Corey Yantha.

If you’re going to buy a marijuana stock, this is the only one you should buy

I truly believe that at this point, you should not be buying any marijuana-related stocks. The risks currently far outweigh the benefits, it seems to me, for anyone looking to invest in a cannabis company.

These companies are fundamentally overpriced. Considering that the companies I have seen, for the most part, do not have earnings or free cash flow, there appears to be little reason to buy them on fundamental grounds. I suppose you could argue that, for many companies, their revenues have been increasing, but I do not believe this makes a compelling investment.

After completing a new $115 million financing round, Cannabis Wheaton Income Corp. (TSXV:CBW) is now sitting on a huge pile of cash, says analyst Greg McLeish of Mackie Research, who on Tuesday maintained his “Buy” recommendation and price target of $3.00.

We took Alberta’s mandatory training for cannabis workers. Here’s what we learned.

Alberta is one of the first Canadian provinces to launch a mandatory “safe selling” course for employees of its soon-to-be-legal retail cannabis industry.

The program, called SellSafe Cannabis Staff Training, is required for Albertans hoping to work in cannabis retail sales.

To attain such a retail job, a citizen must be included on the province’s list of “qualified cannabis workers.” To get on the list, a citizen must take and pass the SellSafe course.

To get a closeup view of the knowledge that Alberta’s looking to instill in its retail cannabis workers, I signed up for Alberta’s SellSafe program. Here’s what I learned.

Syqe Medical develops device for measuring cannabis dose

CEO Perry Davidson:  We're a hardware company, a medical devices company, for administering medical cannabis.

The capital market has been swooning recently over listed cannabis companies, especially over the as yet unfulfilled promise of marketing the product overseas. Meanwhile, while approval for exporting cannabis is being delayed, quite a few less prominent private companies are starting to fulfill their promises in the Israeli market.
