When Canada’s plans to legalize recreational marijuana sprung into existence, people did not take it seriously, as many citizens thought it was a political scheme to convince voters. It was not until Wednesday, October 17, 2018, that many were convinced as Canada became the second country globally to accept the use of said plant.

As stores make their way, those interested need to bear many things in mind. For instance, what might the cost of purchasing marijuana be from province to province? Other factors worth mentioning here include supply and demand, age requirements, amount allowed in one’s possession, etc.

Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED)(NYSE:CGC) is the largest cannabis company in the world by market cap. Despite the firm being widely regarded as one of the best equipped to profit from the growing marijuana sector, many investors think Canopy is currently overvalued. However, Canopy’s share value has decreased by about 15% over the past month at writing. Is now a good time to purchase shares of the Ontario-based pot company?

WeedMD Inc (TSX-V:WMD) (OTCQX:WDDMF) (FSE:4WE), the medical-grade cannabis producer, is converting its 26,000-square-foot Aylmer, Ontario facility into a cannabis extraction and processing plant.

The fully licensed oil extraction facility is expected to be operational this summer with the capacity to process 200,000 kilograms of biomass per year. The company has processed oils at the Aylmer site since June 2017.

Forget bitcoin -- marijuana remains the hottest viable investment opportunity on Wall Street. Rather than relying on intangible digital tokens, investors have witnessed the potential of the legal marijuana industry firsthand, which has been generating tens of billions of dollar a year in the black market for decades. With Canada having legalized recreational weed in 2018, and new markets moving toward a legalized environment with each passing year, the legal cannabis environment could prove very profitable to patient investors.

Earlier this month, TheCannalysts and Grant Thornton brought the WeCann Conference to Edmonton, Alberta. Various speakers and panels were invited to the conference to discuss important topics related to cannabis, from marijuana agriculture up to its retail. The gathering aims to recognize and commemorate the cannabis industry’s development and economic growth throughout the years and to explore more on its many possibilities. 

During the one-day event, there was one topic that got the attention of multiple panels –  the second stage of the implementation and the legalization of cannabis edibles into the market. 

As much as we would like to tell ourselves sometimes that it isn’t, investing is very much about being a “long person’s game” where patience, discipline, and foresightedness pay off. And as we’ve seen more recently, markets can sometimes act in unforeseeable and unexpected ways, making the aim of trying to “time the markets” a mug’s game at best.

But the good news is that once you’ve locked this distinction in, it’s actually something that will end up working in your favour as an investor.

Cannabis stocks had an upbeat start Tuesday, with shares broadly up across US and Canadian markets.

The North American Marijuana Index, which tracks the top cannabis stocks in the US and Canada, was up 0.6% to 273.8 points on Tuesday. The Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences Index ETF slipped 0.2% to C$20.18.

Namaste Technologies Inc (CVE:N) (OTCMKTS:NXTTF) shares continued to rise on Tuesday, up 6.1% at $0.66 in New York, up 3.6% at C$0.87 in Toronto.

Recreational cannabis consumption is legal in 10 states in the United States as well as all across Canada for adults of a certain age. However, unlike other recreational choices like alcohol, in many places, there is no place for adults to socially consume cannabis together.

Valens GroWorks Corp (CSE:VGW) (OTC:VGWCF) said Tuesday it has signed a two-year agreement to provide cannabis extraction to Tantalus Labs

The cannabis extraction company will process marijuana biomass from Tantalus into resins and distillates. It expects to begin processing the first shipment in the third quarter of 2019.

Shares increased 1.4% to C$4.31 in Toronto and 4.9% to US$3.19 on OTC markets. 

Tantalus Labs is a British Columbia cannabis producer focused on sungrown cultivation techniques.
