Illinois: Medical pot farms finally get growing

Multiple marijuana farms have planted crops, and the state is preparing to begin tracking each plant from “seed to sale.”

Five cultivation centers are authorized by the state to begin growing, said Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Kristi Jones.

Two downstate operations — Ataraxia, in Albion, and Revolution Cannabis-Delavan, in Delavan — have announced they have begun farming marijuana.

The state, however, won’t say which companies have been allowed to begin cultivating.

It also won’t say how much marijuana has been planted.

Ataraxia said it’s got hundreds of plants going and hopes to have product available by October.

Florida medical marijuana supporters begin second push for legalization with 100,000 signed ...

Supporters of a proposed constitutional amendment that would legalize medical marijuana sent 100,000 petitions to county elections supervisors this week, one of the first steps in getting the proposal before voters next year.

It’s the second shot for United for Care, the committee behind the petition drive, to get the proposal on the ballot. A similar plan received 58 percent of the vote in November, just shy of the 60 percent required for passage.

Judges at odds over marijuana odor and search warrants - Arizona Daily Sun

PHOENIX -- Just days after three judges one division of the Court of Appeals said the smell of marijuana is not enough for a search, a second panel in another division have reached a contrary conclusion.

The judges on Thursday upheld the actions by police officers who searched a vehicle they had stopped after detecting the smell of burnt marijuana. That search yielded what police said was a "marble size'' quantity of the unburnt drug.

An attorney for Ian H. Cheatham argued that once voters approved the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act, the smell of burnt marijuana, absent more, is no longer evidence that a crime is being committed. And that, he argued, made the search illegal.

Eustis family nursery seeks marijuana license

USTIS – After 41 years of cultivating lush, indoor tropical plants, the owners of Treadwell Nursery hope to make a dramatic turn to a new crop.

They now want to grow medical marijuana.

Glen and Sharon Treadwell and their three adult daughters appear to be what some lawmakers said they had in mind when they wrote the state's limited medical-marijuana law. The goal was to have old-Florida growers establish the industry.

"My sister Julie likes to say, 'If you'd have asked me if there would be aliens or if mom and dad would have considered growing cannabis, I would have bet on the aliens,'" said Jammie Treadwell of her religiously conservative parents.

And that's for one simple reason.
