Marijuana Legalization 2015: Will Florida Finally Get Legal Pot?

Florida marijuana proponents are moving forward with a new campaign to legalize pot after a recent push to bring medical cannabis to the state failed to pass muster with voters and state lawmakers. Replican State Rep. Greg Steube of Sarasota refiled a bill Friday to allow the medical use of marijuana. Meanwhile, supporters of a proposed ballot measure that would overhaul the state's constitution and allow legal cannabis have begun a signature collection drive.

Governor Gary Johnson Calls Politicians ‘Absolutely Spineless’ for Not Supporting Cannabis Legalization

Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson calls politicians “absolutely spineless!” on this week’s TNMNewsshow, adding that to them, politics is about “getting up every morning to check which way the wind blows, and making sure that you’re not on the wrong side of anything. Well, this country has been on the wrong side of this issue for five decades, I do think we’re at a tipping point, and we’re going to do it despite lawmakers.”

Same Govt that Locks People in Jail for Cannabis, Just Approved OxyContin for Young Children

Washington, D.C. — The evidence is undisputable. Cannabis is an incredibly beneficial plant with medical applications that humanity has only begun to explore. Its harmful side effects are nearly non-existent, and no evidence to date has shown that anyone has ever died from it.

The evidence is undisputable. OxyContin and other opioid-based prescription drugs have a small range of uses from pain management to cough relief. The harmful side effects of opioids are virtually limitless. They are highly addictive, sicken tens of thousands of people a year and kill thousands.

3 Presidential Candidates Most Likely to Legalize or Decriminalize Marijuana

Full speed ahead
Since 1996, nearly two dozen states have legalized the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes, while four states -- Oregon, Colorado, Washington, and Alaska -- have legalized the drug for recreational use among adults as well. Two decades ago the idea of physicians in nearly half of all U.S. states being able to prescribe marijuana to their patients would have been deemed laughable. Today, though, it's a far different story.

Cannabis Business Contracts

The best cannabis contracts are those that never need to be enforced. The most important goal in contract negotiation is for the parties to determine their obligations and when those obligations are due to each other. Everything else is secondary.

That said, things can and do go wrong in business transactions. Maybe a party tries to back out of the deal. More common is that the circumstances surrounding the deal change and the parties cannot agree on which side was to bear the risk of the change in circumstances. One thing leads to another, and we have litigation. Costly litigation.

Tipping Point: 40 States Currently Allow Some Form Of Legal Marijuana

It used to be just California, and for a long time there was nobody else. A few years ago it seemed novelty that 13 US states allowed some kind of legal marijuana, as if that weren’t enough, 4 states made it recreationally legal, and some others joined- making the number to almost half of the US states (23) plus Guam, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

Further, in the past 18 months 16 additional states have passed laws to enable their citizens  access to the marijuana component cannabidiol (CBD).

The total number of states that allow some form of legal marijuana is a resounding 40/50 (thats 80%)

Currently, the only states who do NOT have any pro marijuana laws are:

The Silicon Valley of marijuana

Mark Morley looks out over 30 acres he owns east of Pueblo, Colorado, and imagines the future. On this blustery May afternoon, there’s little more than mud and puddles here, bordered by highway and railroad tracks and flanked by farm buildings and rolling hills. But by the end of September, if all goes well, he’ll be looking at a pungent green thicket, as 14,400 marijuana plants reach their full 8-foot height. It’s one of several major outdoor grows launching this summer in Pueblo County. Eventually, Morley plans to expand onto another 1,500 acres, investing in center-pivot irrigation, greenhouses and processing facilities able to handle 40,000 plants.

States find their own path on medical marijuana policy

“Based on the research to date, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not recognized or approved the marijuana plant as medicine,” Mario Moreno Zepeda, spokesperson for the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, said. “However, research on marijuana extracts, called cannabinoids, has led to FDA-approved medications.”

FDA approval of marijuana would require “carefully conducted studies (clinical trials) in hundreds to thousands of human subjects to determine the benefits and risks of a possible medication,” according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

RI revenues from medical marijuana miss the mark

PROVIDENCE — It has been two years since Rhode Island launched its medical marijuana market and opened dispensaries around the state, but tax revenues haven’t been quite as high as state officials expected.

There are now three medical marijuana dispensaries — also known as compassion centers — selling marijuana to patients in Rhode Island, with the state collecting a 4 percent surcharge and a 7 percent sales tax on all their transactions. While revenues are increasing, some centers say they’re facing increasing competition from caregivers who can grow and sell medical marijuana without paying taxes to the state.
