It’s on the ballot now. ResponsibleOhio, the group that shocked the drug reform world, has qualified their constitutional amendment to end Ohio marijuana prohibiton for the 2015 ballot as Issue 3.

That means the conversations about which method of legalizing marijuana someone in Ohio may prefer are moot. On November 3, 2015, there are just three choices for the Ohio voter:

Yeast has been engineered to produce the main psychoactive compound in marijuana - tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Responsible for the majority of marijuana's psychological effects - including the high - THC can also be use to treat symptoms of HIV infection and chemotherapy and researchers are hoping their yeast will be able to pump it out more efficiently than producing synthetic versions.

Pursuant to section 706(1) of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Year 2003 (Public Law 107-228) (FRAA), I hereby identify the following countries as major drug transit and/or major illicit drug producing countries:  Afghanistan, The Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Burma, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.

What are the long-term effects of marijuana use on the body’s metabolic health?

That’s what a doctoral student, Michael Bancks, at the University of Minnesota set out to learn when he dug into the data for CARDIA, a long-term health study whose 5,115 participants were recruited by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in 1985-1986. At the time, they were ages 18 to 30.

Now, in the 30th year of the study, the group has entered middle age. This is when prediabetes, a major metabolic risk factor, often starts to appear.

Arguing over a particular vintage’s “notes of sandalwood” and “hints of elderberry” with an air of insufferable pretension so palpable it’s a shop-worn cliche, those at the upper echelons of power and influence routinely pop the cork on bottles that cost more than the rest of us spend on rent for a month—or a year.

Marijuana legalization is often compared to the repeal of alcohol prohibition in the 1930s. Many see marijuana following the same trajectory as alcohol, where the states, just as they did with alcohol, start with medical regimes and one-by-one create a patchwork of state-based marijuana regulations leading up to recreational use.

"People who use marijuana may be more likely to develop pre-diabetes than those who have never smoked it," The Independent reports, after a US study found a link between long-term cannabis use and pre-diabetes.

Pre-diabetes is defined as having abnormally high blood sugar levels, but not high enough to meet criteria for diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

The study enrolled around 3,000 healthy young US adults in the mid-1980s. Over the following years, researchers carried out regular medical assessments and questioned participants about their use of cannabis and other substances.

The Senate Appropriations Committee earlier this summer passed legislation allowing banks to provide financial services to marijuana dispensaries in states where the federally prohibited drug is legal, but it’s very unlikely any major bank will take on such business until the government changes the classification of marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug, said one executive of a marijuana-based business.
