Colorado Attorney General investigates marijuana companies using 'organic'

Because marijuana is illegal under federal law, and use of the term organic is federally regulated, a licensed cannabis business cannot be certified as organic no matter their practices

Colorado’s attorney general is investigating several marijuana businesses over concerns the word “organic” in their names or advertising might be misleading to consumers.

The office is reviewing complaints from consumers that the “merchants have been misrepresenting their product when they say ‘organic’ or ‘organically grown,'” said Roger Hudson, spokesman for Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman. “We’re looking for information inside those complaints to make a determination on what those next steps are. Is it consumer fraud? Is it criminal?”

Republicans Debate Marijuana Legalization: Jeb Bush Admits To Smoking Pot

Top-tier Republican candidates participating in the second GOP debate Wednesday night huffed and puffed over marijuana legalization as more states move to allow voters to legally light up. One Republican candidate even admitted to getting high in his youth.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said the drug war has gone too far, noting that there were racial implications associated with it. He advocated for more rehabilitation and less incarceration, and said it was hypocritical for candidates who had smoked pot in the past to oppose medical marijuana.

Day Without Marijuana Tax Draws Mixed Reactions in Colorado

DENVER — Some called it Christmas for stoners. Others warned of marijuana anarchy.

Marijuana products across Colorado were nearly tax free on Wednesday — a one-time tax break forced by a quirk in the state Constitution. The break knocked away the state’s 10 percent tax on cannabis purchases — which is imposed on top of the existing state sales tax and any municipal taxes — and marijuana shops around the state spent months coordinating their distribution plans, advertising deep discounts in addition to the tax vacation and encouraging customers to start lining up at dawn.

FOP Comes Out Against Legalized Marijuana

I have worked locally as a police officer for the past 27 years and have spent the past 13 years working with juveniles as a school resource officer and juvenile detective.

Board member Michael Collins said he talks regularly with educators from Colorado who tell him that young people have not handled easier access to the drug well.

In May, ResponsibleOhio was criticized in an editorial in High Times magazine, the monthly publication that supports marijuana legalization.

One issue would allow recreational marijuana use, but the other issue would take away most of the framework of that law.

If we want to do something about the heroin epidemic, a significant impact can be made by preventing teenagers from using drugs in the first place.

Jeb Bush admits '40 years ago I smoked marijuana'

Kentucky senator Rand Paul put more traditional conservatives on the defensive during the CNN GOP presidential candidates’ debate on Wednesday night, framing a fierce defence of cannabis use and states’ rights.

“There is at least one prominent example of someone who’s said they’ve smoked [weed] in high school,” Paul said. “I would like to see more rehabilitation and less incarceration.”

“But the bottom line is … we say we support the 10th amendment until we start talking about this.” He also said the war on drugs had led to “a racial outcome”.

The Heartbreaking Reason Carly Fiorina Is Anti-Marijuana

There's a very real reason Carly Fiorina is against legalizing marijuana: The Republican presidential candidate watched her stepdaughter, Lori Ann Fiorina, battle drug addiction and die an early death, at just 35 years old.

At the debate Wednesday, the moderator asked Chris Christie about his earlier statements saying he'd ban marijuana even in states like Colorado that have legalized it. When Fiorina had a chance to weigh in, her statement turned to her personal history.

"My husband and I buried a child to drug addiction," Fiorina said, acknowledging that the same is sadly true for many watching. "We must invest in the treatment of drugs."
