Colorado's monthly marijuana sales top $100 million

Marijuana sales blazed past the $100 million mark for the first time in August, the Denver Post reported over the weekend.

According to sales data from Colorado’s Department of Revenue released Friday, sales of recreational pot topped $59.2 million for the month, while medical marijuana dispensaries pulled in $41.4 million, for a combined $100.6 million — the highest monthly total since legal recreational cannabis sales began there in January 2014.

Car made of hemp makes Denver stop

The car drew remarkably little attention in a city of legalized marijuana.

No crowd surrounded it. Passersby didn’t pause to look it over. Probably that’s because it looks just like a Mazda Miata convertible — except for the side panel poster of George Washington smoking a joint.

Indeed, the chassis of this unique automobile prototype was taken from a Miata. But the body is pure hemp, whose fibers have been woven, put in a mold, hardened with resin and covered with paint.

Its promoters call the bright red result the greenest car in the world.

The body is an agricultural product. The engine can run on biobutanol, a fuel made of agricultural scraps that smells like a blend of garbage, wood chips and alcohol.

Florida Attorney John Morgan To Match Every Donated Dollar To Medical Marijuana Campaign ...

Last year I declared Florida attorney John Morgan to be ‘Philanthropist of the Year.’ The award seemed fitting considering how much of his own money John Morgan put up for the 2014 Florida medical marijuana campaign. The last number I heard was that he donated between 4-8 million dollars for the campaign, which was just two percentage points away from passing. John Morgan is back at it again for the 2016 cycle. He recently announced that he would donate 9 dollars to the campaign for every 1 dollar donated by someone else. You donate $10, he chips in $90. You donate $100, he throws in $900.

National Cancer Institute Posts Benefits of Marijuana on Federal Govt. Website

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is the federal government’s principal agency for cancer research and training. Recently, it updated its site to posts the known benefits of marijuana. The federal government admits to the below benefits, yet will not institute national medical marijuana laws to promote the research and use of this proven medicine. Obviously, the question arises who is stopping a serious push in Congress to do what obviously needs to be done in the public’s best interest.

Benefits acknowledged by the federal government resulting from marijuana use:

Growing Pains: Regulating the Use of Pesticides on Marijuana

In 46 states, marijuana smokers still have to worry about being arrested and jailed for their use of marijuana. The latest Uniform Crime Report released a few days ago found more than 700,000 Americans were arrested on marijuana charges during 2014 — a marijuana arrest every 45 seconds. Of those arrests, 88 percent were for simple possession for personal use – just average Americans who enjoy smoking a joint when they relax at the end of the day, just as tens of millions of Americans enjoy a beer or a glass of wine.

And when our personal freedom is at stake, ending arrests has to be the priority for all of us.

How Growing More Weed Can Help California Fix Its Water Problems

Last Tuesday, the Humboldt County Courthouse in Eureka, California was swarming with potheads. A pro-cannabis rally had been organized by State Assemblyman Jim Wood, who knows how to grab headlines: In July, Wood walked onto the State Capitol floor carrying a live marijuana plant and asked his colleagues to regulate the heck out of it.
