New Yorkers are smoking pot in public like it’s no big deal

The city is getting higher by the day — and we’re not talking about Manhattan skyscrapers.

In the span of a few hours in broad daylight last week, The Post encountered six people smoking reefer on busy downtown sidewalks.

Mayor Bill de Blasio decriminalized low-level marijuana possession last November — but many New Yorkers evidently mistook that for de-facto legalization.

You can still get cuffed for smoking a joint in public — as a female stoner was warned recently when Police Commissioner Bill Bratton saw her toking on Wall Street.

No clear majority on marijuana

Media coverage depicts legalization as a done deal, just waiting for Gov. Shumlin’s signature in 2016. Vermont’s lawmakers and officials have stepped right in behind Shumlin and the paid marijuana lobby to make us believe this.

Bob Marley's band 'The Wailers' talk about music, marijuana and the artist himself!

Bob Marley's band The Wailers performs in India this month. Amrita Madhukalya speaks to his bandmate Aston Barrett about everything Marley, including marijuana and, of course, reggae

  • Aston Barrett and The Wailers will perform in Shillong and in Kolkata

Bob Marley passed away at the age of 36 in 1981, leaving behind a legacy of music that no other musician could ever replicate. This year's Booker winner, Marlon James's A Brief History of Seven Killings, which tells the story of an assassination attempt on the reggae legend's life, attests to that mystique too. Now, more than three decades after Marley's death, his band, The Wailers, are all set to perform at the NH7 Weekender Festival in India.

Should Portland Create a Marijuana Retail Zone?

Portland Commissioner Dan Saltzman has proposed a measure that would limit regulation on newly functioning recreational marijuana facilities by creating a “marijuana retail zone” in the city’s downtown area. Members of the community sounded off to GoLocal about the idea of a “green-light district.”

Saltzman said he wants to eliminate a rule that forbids two marijuana businesses from operating within 1,000 feet of one another in Portland’s central city, which includes downtown Portland and the Lloyd District. Marijuana businesses and dispensaries would still be required to be at least 1,000 feet away from a school.

Marijuana Legalization In New Jersey: Pot Group Scheduled To Protest Outside Of Trenton State ...

Marijuana advocates in New Jersey are planning a gathering in front of the statehouse Saturday to demand that marijuana be legalized in the Garden State. The rally, scheduled for 3 p.m., is the third organized in the Trenton so far this year.

Across the state, marijuana advocates have been pushing reforms to local laws and ordinances, building up to the state level, according to NJ.com. The organizers began their push in June when the town of Asbury Park passed a non-binding resolution calling for marijuana decriminalization in the state. Ultimately, they want that pressure to push Gov. Chris Christie to sign a bill legalizing pot.

Sanders And Clinton Offer Cannabis Clarity And Confusion

Democratic presidential debate in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, Bernie Sanders, the socialist senator from Vermont, became the first major-party candidate to endorse marijuana legalization. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, by contrast, stuck with a wait-and-see position, saying, “I think that we have the opportunity through the states that are pursuing recreational marijuana to find out a lot more than we know today.” But both candidates seemed confused about marijuana’s role in the war on drugs and its contribution to this country’s world-beating incarceration rate.

9 Wisconsin Cities Decriminalize Marijuana Possession

Nine of the ten largest cities in Wisconsin have established local ordinances decriminalizing minor marijuana possession offenses.

The fines range from just $50 (in Milwaukee) up to $1,000 (in Green Bay). Most citywide ordinances do not enforce criminal sanctions unless the quantity of marijuana possessed exceeds 25 grams.

One of the ordinances imposes a maximum fine of only $100 for anyone found in the possession of up to 28 grams of marijuana. Another amended local law makes possession of up to five grams of marijuana punishable by no more than a $100 fine.
