THE MICHIGAN STATE POLICE Forensic Science Division finds itself embroiled in scandal as newly released emails paint a picture of a crime lab in turmoil over how to classify marijuana. Attorneys and medical marijuana advocates accuse Michigan prosecutors of pressuring the state’s crime lab to falsely classify the origins of THC found in hash oils and marijuana edibles as “origin unknown.”

HANOVER, Pa. (WHTM) – As the state’s medical marijuana fight stalls in the statehouse, activists haven’t given up pushing for public support.

One of those demonstrating Saturday in York County was more recognizable than most: Chuck Homan was arrested on marijuana charges last year.

“I just don’t know what else to do,” he said Saturday.

He says he uses it to treat manic depression; last month, a York County judge said that’s okay and found him not guilty.

But it’s “not a real comfortable position to be in,” he said with a laugh. “I still live in fear.”

He hasn’t stopped using pot, which means he could be arrested again. But he still petitioned the streets of Hanover over the week, rallying support for medicinal cannabis.

One morning in September, I logged on to the website of HelloMD, a medical start-up that promises to connect patients with doctors instantly over the Internet. I filled out my personal details, explained my ailment — I often get heartburn — and entered in my credit card number to cover the $50 consultation fee.

Illinois medical marijuana dispensaries sold nearly $211,000 worth of medical cannabis to patients in the first week of legal sales, as reported by the Associated Press.

I have a special place in my heart for marijuana reform activists in Idaho. One side of my family (maternal) is from Idaho, and I have hundreds of relatives that live there. I don’t visit very often. As part of the Oregon Liquor Control Commission's rules and regulations regarding the sale of recreational marijuana, all marijuana businesses that operate in the state must be majority owned by a legal resident of Oregon, who has lived in the state for more than two years. Experts in the marijuana industry say the rule is unnecessarily restrictive and may be a social justice issue, and they are working to change it.
