United for Care is Working Hard to Raise Funds and Signatures before January

A full year has passed since Florida let medicinal marijuana slip through the cracks by a mere 2%. Of course you know that hasn’t kept anyone down, especially not John Morgan and United for Care, the most well-known marijuana reform initiative in the state of Florida which is fighting for legalized medical marijuana to be offered to people who live with qualifying debilitating conditions.

Last year this ballot initiative was thrown through all sorts of hoops in order to get to the ballot boxes in November – this year it appears that they’ve managed to fix up their language to suite everyone’s concerns from the previous year. Now the hardest part is upon us – gathering petitions and fundraising to pay signature gatherers.

Bureaucratic Hurdles & Spotty Access To Medicinal Cannabis Gives Rise To ‘Cannabis Refugees’

“I tried to everything I could while in Alabama, but now that we are here [in California] it’s much better and we have a support system,” the mother of a daughter with epilepsy tells MintPress of their decision to pack their bags and head to a state where medicinal cannabis is available.

MENDOCINO COUNTY, California — Cannabis has a rich history of medicinal use going back thousands of years. It is only in the last couple hundred years that the plant has faced restrictive laws and prohibition, particularly in the United States, where it’s been classified as a Schedule I drug with no known medicinal benefits and a high rate of addiction since the Controlled Substances Act was passed in 1970.

Though the economy is clearly improving and the unemployment rate is at a seven-year low, many folks are still finding it hard to get back into the work force. Though there are things you can do to help yourself out if you’re on the outside of the employment world looking in, sometimes it comes down to taking a job you don’t want – even a seasonal, or part-time gig.

Legislative session to consider marijuana legalization as medical initiative moves forward

Legislative proposals to legalize marijuana and hemp production will not alter the plans of the best-funded group pursuing an initiative petition for medical marijuana.

New Approach Missouri, which has raised more than $125,000 for its campaign, would be happy to support a proposal that mirrors its initiative but can’t rely on lawmakers passing an acceptable plan, spokesman Jack Cardetti said.

“Illinois went through the legislature, and they had to make so many compromises that now they have implemented a law that affects only 3,500 patients,” he said.

3 sickened after eating marijuana-laced brownies from teachers' lounge

HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Police in a township in Michigan want to know who left pot brownies in the teacher's lounge of Spring Mills Elementary School.

“We tested the brownie and it was positive for marijuana, cannabis." Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told WJBK.

The surprise dessert appeared Tuesday and three teachers who ate the brownies said they felt slightly ill.

Teachers' Lounge

But one of the teachers became so sick after school she was transported to an area hospital.

Doctors asked the teacher if there had been "anything unusual" about her day. She said that she had sampled a "free treat" in the teacher's lounge from a pan of brownies.

Alaska Marijuana Task Force postpones regulation decision

Comments and discussion stretched late into the night at the borough’s first Marijuana Task Force meeting after the statewide marijuana regulations came out.

The task force received comments for hours from members of the public, all urging them to stay as close to the state regulations as possible to foster a growing industry. After deliberation, the task force postponed a decision about any local regulations until its meeting after the new year.

Task force member Dollynda Phelps proposed to postpone the discussion of permits and limitations proposed by Amy Fenske, who recently resigned from the task force. Phelps introduced a motion to do nothing additional in the borough and simply stick to the state regulations.

Freeman: The etymology of marijuana prohibition

Marijuana. It’s a word we’re all are familiar with, especially if you’ve been living in Colorado for the last five years.

It’s a word that can stir up emotions immediately, regardless of where your convictions lay. It is a word that is rampant in headlines across the U.S., increasingly so every day. It is a word that was introduced into our lexicon innocently enough, only to be kidnapped by the social media of the time and used to vilify and condemn a plant that never meant any harm.
