Canopy Growth applies for first NYSE listing by a marijuana producer

Canada’s biggest marijuana company has applied to become the first pot producer to list on the New York Stock Exchange.

Canopy Growth Corp., which already trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol WEED, said Monday it expects its shares to begin trading in New York under the symbol CGC before the end of May.

Chief Executive Officer Bruce Linton said earlier this year that he was one day away from filing to list on the Nasdaq Stock Market but pulled back to focus on closing a deal with alcohol giant Constellation Brands Inc. He said Monday that he chose the NYSE over the Nasdaq because of the additional credibility it lends his company.

Senate could sit into summer to pass marijuana bills

'We will sit 'til it's done,' government Senate representative says.

The Trudeau government's representative in the Senate says the chamber will extend its session into the summer if that's what it takes to pass two new laws to regulate recreational cannabis use.

Sen. Peter Harder told CBC Radio's The House he's made it clear to his colleagues that bills C-45 and C-46 must be passed before the chamber breaks for the summer.

"We will sit 'til it's done," he said.

"We have an obligation as a Senate to deal with the legislation that's before us before we take a summer break."

Currently, both the primary legislation and the accompanying drug-impaired driving bill are before Senate committees.

US border officials won't say what could happen to Canadians who admit to consuming weed

Even though recreational cannabis will be fully legal in Canada in the coming months, there is still little clarity about what exactly Canadians crossing the U.S. border can expect after legalization is implemented.

It will still be illegal to bring any type of cannabis over the U.S. border because the substance will remain federally illegal there, however there are fears that Canadians who simply admit to consuming it at any point of their lives to U.S. border agents could be permanently barred entry into the U.S. or face other punitive measures.

How Quebec could allow Home-Growing marijuana?

Home-Growing marijuana – The inevitable legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada has been bringing up more questions than answers since the Federal Government first introduced Bill C-45, the Cannabis Act, in the House of Commons in April of 2017. The third and final reading of the Bill by the Senate is expected no later than June 7th 2018, with Canada-wide legalization on July 1st 2018 – but there could be a delay of up to 2-3 months before legal weed is actually available for consumers.

Aurora Cannabis to buy MedReleaf in deal worth $3.2B

Aurora Cannabis Inc. has inked a friendly deal to acquire MedReleaf Corp. in an all-stock transaction valued at $3.2 billion, creating a company capable of producing more than 570,000 kilograms of marijuana per year.

Current shareholders of Aurora - one of the Canadian cannabis industry's major consolidators - would own 61 per cent of the combined company and MedReleaf shareholders would own about 39 per cent.

“Our complementary assets, strategic synergies, and strong market positioning will provide us with critical mass and an excellent product portfolio in preparation for the adult consumer use market in Canada,” Aurora chief executive Terry Booth said in a statement.

NPA councillor to introduce motion that will require Vancouver cannabis dispensaries to carry LP weed

"The majority, if not all, retail stores licensed by the City of Vancouver MMRU [Medical Marijuana Related Use], as well as those open without a license, do not obtain their supply from licensed producers regulated by Health Canada," reads the motion on notice posted on the agenda for the next city council meeting (May 15).

"Currently police information checks are required for the applicant and all staff (including directors and health professionals); however there is no requirement for the applicant to conduct police information checks for suppliers and/or growers," it continues.

It goes on to mention recent robberies at Vancouver dispensaries, and warns councillors of the participation of "organized crime and/or gangs" in the city's pot shops.

From ‘busted!’ in 1972 to today’s $1-billion profit forecast: A deeper look at Canada’s legal marijuana market

The marijuana market

Who’d have thought, in around 1972 when some of your school acquaintances may have been getting busted, that in 2018 we’d be talking about the outlook for EBITDA among producers and sellers of legal marijuana.

Even those who later ventured into financial services and accounting probably didn’t think they’d see the day when they were analyzing pot stocks and projecting earnings before interest taxes, depreciation and amortization.

(Just the word amortization might have made them giggle.)

But here we are, decades later, with Canada’s Liberal government aiming for legalization this summer, with a strong outlook for a new marijuana industry.

Hold onto your Aurora Cannabis stock, this investor says

Like the rest of the pot stocks, Aurora Cannabis (TSX:ACB) hit its highs back in January, only to tumble almost as quickly in February while trading sideways ever since.

Not a surprise, says Elliott Fishman of Scotia Wealth, who says that none of the moves so far in the cannabis space make much sense and that we’ll have to wait for the reality of rec legalization before some level of rationality takes hold.

This week, Aurora announced its third quarter fiscal 2018 financials, posting revenue of $16.1 million, a 211 per cent increase over last year’s Q3, to go along with a net loss of $20.8 million.

CEO Terry Booth says the company’s revenue growth has been exceptional, even before Aurora’s ambitious expansion plans are brought to fruition.

YouTube's cannabis content purge "a huge loss of cultural history"

Why videos focused on home cultivation and cannabis activism are disappearing from the platform.

‘This video is no longer available because the YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated.’

Imagine seeing that frustrating prompt on videos you’ve hosted on your channel for several years, perhaps even a decade, without notice—or worse, that your channel and the hundreds of hours worth of video content you’ve uploaded have been completely removed.

It's a cold reality cannabis vloggers and content creators are facing as a recent crackdown on weed-related material slowly decimates channels while disappointing their subscribers.

Tory staffer fired for urging senators to delay final vote on pot legalization

Tory staffer urges senators to delay pot vote.

Senators are being encouraged to postpone a vote on a bill to legalize recreational cannabis by a now-former employee of the Conservative's chief critic of the legislation.

Sen. Claude Carignan said Friday he did not authorize Malcolm Armstrong, whom he'd hired on contract to advise him on the marijuana issue, to propose delaying the vote. The Conservative senator called the idea "crazy" and unrealistic.
