Aurora Cannabis is chasing billion-dollar deals. Do investors benefit?

During a news conference to unveil his signature deal, the chief executive of Aurora Cannabis Inc. was hailed as a “pioneer and visionary” by his executive team.

Yet, when he was asked a simple question by an analyst, to explain which metrics he used to value his $3.2-billion takeover of MedReleaf Corp., Terry Booth got a little tripped up.

“Metrics ...” he said, trailing off. After an awkward silence, he conjured up half an answer. “That’s our secret.”

Cannabis education coming in Indigenous languages, says NWT gov't

But a Tlicho leader says elders need more details.

As cannabis becomes legalized, a community leader is calling for more public information in his Indigenous language.

In late April, Chief Clifford Daniels of Behchoko told CBC he wants to see information about the proposed cannabis laws in his community's language, Tlicho.

"We really need to inform the public. And it shouldn't be up to the community governments to pick up that cost," he said.

According to the Government of the Northwest Territories and Health Canada, communities like Daniels' will get what they need.

The workforce is booming, said Alison McMahon, who runs Cannabis At Work, a staffing agency focused on the burgeoning industry.

Right now, she's recruiting for positions in everything from growing and production to sales and marketing, all across the country.

I think that the people, at this point, who are looking at the industry and are excited really see the upside and the growth potential.

Original plan included 10,000-square-foot mall.

Regional District of Nanaimo forming policy on marijuana retail shops

Directors refer draft policy back to staff for further discussions.

The Regional District of Nanaimo is establishing a policy for non-medical cannabis retail store licence applications.

When the federal government legalizes the recreational use of marijuana this summer, the regional district and other jurisdictions will be facing challenges in dealing with applications for legal sale of recreational marijuana.

When it becomes legal, the federal government will take sole responsibility on regulating the production of non-medical marijuana. In British Columbia, the wholesale distribution of recreational marijuana will be be processed only through the Liquor Distribution Board.

Seven ways to boost your cannabis flower's power

Some tips to help you get the most out of your weed and bring your cannabis costs down.

Whether you’re a medical or recreational cannabis user, things are getting pricey out there. A recent survey by Statistics Canada found Canadians on average pay less than $7 a gram for cannabis, but you’d be hard-pressed to find those kind of prices in storefront dispensaries in Toronto. It is far more likely to find strains that cost double that.

The results of the Stats Can survey suggests most Canadians are still purchasing cannabis from the black market to save money.

Jim Beam heir turns to pot with plan for a cannabis empire

Shortly after Prohibition ended, one of Ben Kovler’s ancestors invested $5,000 in a family of distillers led by James Beauregard Beam.

Kovler, 39, sees similarities between the liquor industry of the 1930s, when his great-grandfather Harry Blum helped build Jim Beam into one of the most recognizable bourbon brands, and today’s market for cannabis. With the end of what he calls “Prohibition 2.0,” Kovler is preparing to take Green Thumb Industries public in Canada.

GTI, a cultivator, processor and dispensary owner that operates in six U.S. states, plans to go public next month through a reverse merger with an already-listed Canadian company, Kovler, the firm’s founder and chairman, said in an interview. He’s also the biggest shareholder.
