The first marijuana exchange-traded fund has reached a milestone that has as much to do with surging pot stocks as it does with investor inflows.

The Canadian military has released rules for its members when it comes to recreational cannabis consumption.

The guidelines, published Friday, indicate members of the Canadian Armed Forces will be allowed to consume and possess cannabis as long as they follow the federal and provincial laws, but face several added regulations about when they can and can’t use the drug.

Members of the Armed Forces will not be allowed to consume cannabis during a shift or domestic exercise. They will not be allowed to bring cannabis on any aircraft or vessel and are not permitted to bring cannabis with them internationally.

CHICAGO—Deputy commissioner Bill Daly says the NHL does not expect to change its rules on marijuana with the legalization of cannabis in Canada coming on Oct. 17.

Daly said in an interview with The Associated Press on Thursday that the move won’t affect the NHL/NHLPA drug-testing policy.

With Canada set to begin cannabis sales on Oct. 17, some questions linger about how such marijuana reform will interface with Canadian’s daily lives. Chief among these concerns is an issue that has also plagued states that have legalized recreational marijuana: once people buy the marijuana, where can they use it?

All eyes are on Canada as it prepares to legalize recreational marijuana in October, becoming only the second country to do so after Uruguay. The pending change has touched off an investment boom and pushed up valuations of Canada’s cannabis producers. They’re enjoying a first-mover advantage as medical and recreational pot gain traction from the U.S. to Germany. Canada’s industry will also be the litmus test for whether governments can stamp out illicit sales, transfer billions of dollars in revenue to an emerging industry, generate taxes and create jobs.

TORONTO -- Ontario has signed supply agreements with six more licensed cannabis producers, bringing the total to 32, along with 10 accessories suppliers.

The deals were announced Wednesday by the Ontario Cannabis Store, which will be selling pot online starting on Oct. 17 when recreational marijuana use is legalized.

It is also establishing a wholesale distribution network to supply cannabis to legal private stores once legislative requirements are put in place.

With just weeks to go before recreational pot becomes legal across Canada, a new report commissioned by Health Canada predicts the demand for it will be substantially higher than widely anticipated.

The report used a 2017 federal survey on cannabis use to estimate how much adult Canadians will consume in the first year of legalization.

It calculated the amount at 926,000 kilograms for both recreational and medical use. That’s a whopping 41 per cent higher than the estimate of 655,000 kilograms by the Parliamentary Budget Officer in 2016.

It’s also higher than estimates by many  private investment companies. A recent report by CIBC World Markets Corp., for example, estimated demand would reach 850,000 kilograms by 2020.

With legalization of marijuana in Canada just six weeks away, the provincial government agency with jurisdiction over legal cannabis is launching a public awareness campaign to let Manitobans know what they can and can’t do as of Oct. 17.

The Can and Can’t of Cannabis awareness campaign is focused on five key messages: you can only buy legal cannabis from licensed retailers; you can carry up to 30 grams in public; you must be 19 or older to buy or consume cannabis; you can’t grow cannabis at home; and you can’t smoke or vape cannabis in public.

More Nova Scotians support selling cannabis in Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation stores than oppose it.

However that support, polled by MQO Research, doesn’t make for a clear majority.

According to the numbers released Wednesday 40 per cent of this province’s residents support or strongly support the McNeil government’s move to sell legal pot from liquor stores while 34 per cent oppose or strongly oppose it.

Twenty-one per cent of the 400 people polled by MQO this summer neither support nor oppose the move and five per cent said they didn’t know.
