The 5 worst-performing pot stocks in April

The marijuana industry has come blazing out of the gates in 2019, with the first-ever tradable cannabis ETF, the Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences ETF, up 51% through the end of April. That not-too-shabby performance, which essentially triples the return of the S&P 500, signals how excited investors are about the long-term prospects for legal weed.

Then again, April was arguably the "worst" month of the year for pot stocks, with the Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences ETF declining by 1.6%. Of the 52 marijuana stocks I regularly track, nearly half of them (25) ended April lower.

Which marijuana stocks are proving their values this week?

Value is something that has been hard to determine in the world of marijuana stocks as prices fluctuate so heavily and so often. Despite this, it seems as though viewing the substance as a commodity may be one of the fairer ways to determine the value of a given company. Of course, this only works for the companies that grow the substance, but these also happen to be the most volatile. Other companies such as those a part of the ancillary services market on cannabis are able to offer different things to the market that make the value more easily attainable.

Capturing Eden brings access to medical marijuana

Free for guests to enjoy, treats of brownies and cakes sat beside a brew of hemp coffee that had good reviews from visitors. A new curious customer walked in every 20 minutes or so, which was a joy for owner Stephen Barber who celebrated six months of hard work at the weekend opening of Capturing Eden.

“We recognize a need, not only in this community but throughout Canada, in especially under-serviced areas that are similar to Haliburton,” Barber said about the lack of medical marijuana access. “People are waiting long times to get medical assessments, travelling a distance to get them, and to find the right products to help their ailments. We thought this would be a good place to start.”

A beginner’s guide to investing in marijuana stocks — Canopy Growth (TSX:WEED) and Aurora Cannabis (TSX:ACB)

There are hundreds of articles about marijuana stocks published every day, and half the articles urge investors to jump in before it’s too late. The other half stress caution.

Yet, too much information can be overwhelming and confusing.

What’s an investor to do? Let’s start by understanding the industry.

Pot stocks are relatively new to the TSX

Five years ago, Tweed Inc became the first marijuana stock to begin trading on the TSX Venture Exchange. At the time, the legalization of recreational pot seemed unlikely under Canada’s conservative government.

4 craft cannabis stocks carving out a lucrative niche

Craft cannabis is exactly what you might think: cannabis that has been crafted with the highest quality of care. Just as a coffee connoisseur has high expectations for his quality of brew, or an aficionado of beer expects a superior smoothness and taste of his/her beverage, there is  a segment of cannabis users who seek out the highest quality flower. The quality of cannabis is determined primarily by the growing technique used. Growing techniques, as well as the use of organic methods as opposed to harsh chemicals, may appeal to the health-conscious cannabis consumer more than a large-scale producer relying on mechanically-operated systems and pesticides. Craft marijuana grown without pesticides requires extra care, ensuring that spider mites or mold don’t infect the plants.

Medical vs. recreational cannabis: Where should I invest?

It’s an exciting time to be a cannabis investor!

The Horizons Marijuana Life Sciences Index ETF (OTC: HMLSF) is obliterating the broader markets…

Year to date, the exchange-traded fund has more than doubled the performance of tech stocks and blue chips.

But I think its run is far from over. There are plenty of catalysts on the horizon. We have pro-cannabis legislation – like the STATES Act and the SAFE Banking Act – inching its way forward in Congress.
