3 potential catalysts that could cause Aurora Cannabis stock to skyrocket

Aurora Cannabis' (NYSE:ACB) sizzle seems to have fizzled. The Canadian marijuana stock more than doubled by the middle of March. Since then, though, Aurora has given up roughly half of its big gain.

But don't think for a second that Aurora can't turn up the heat yet again. The company continues to pick up momentum in the Canadian adult-use recreational pot market and in international medical cannabis markets.

It's also possible that Aurora could surpass its peak share price from a few months ago if the right scenarios unfold. Here are three potential catalysts that could cause Aurora Cannabis stock to skyrocket.

5 most popular marijuana stocks on the market right now

What are the most popular marijuana stocks on the market right now? It depends on how you measure popularity.

Probably the best way to evaluate the popularity of a stock is to look at its average daily trading volume. This number provides a great barometer of investor interest in a given stock. You might argue that some very unpopular stocks could have high average trading volumes as investors sell off the stock. While that might be true, remember that there's a buyer on the other end of every one of those transactions.

Canada passes law to speed pardons for pot possession

The Canadian government passed a law late on Wednesday that would allow its citizens with a criminal record for marijuana possession to be pardoned without any cost and expedite a process that previously could take up a decade.

The new bill is aimed at shedding the “burden of stigma” and removing barriers for employment, education, housing, volunteering and travel for people with records for simple possession of cannabis, Senator Tony Dean said in a statement.

The bill titled C-93 follows Canada’s legalization of the sale and recreational use of marijuana and cannabis products last year, making Canada the first industrialized nation to legalize recreational cannabis.

Rising rates of marijuana use among pregnant women spark concern

Increasing numbers of pregnant women are using marijuana in the U.S. and that may result in issues for their babies, two new studies suggest.

Researchers found that the proportion of U.S. women using pot during pregnancy more than doubled between 2002 and 2017, according to a report published in JAMA.

Legalization may at least partly explain why more women are using marijuana since many assume that means the drug is safe, said the U.S. study's lead author, Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. That attitude, coupled with the lack of studies on pot can lead to "magical thinking," Volkow said. "It's very appealing to think that a drug that makes us feel great could come with no ill effects."

3 cannabis stocks with the highest dividend yields

Cannabis and dividends go together like... Actually, cannabis and dividends usually don't go together at all. There's this tiny little problem that most cannabis companies aren't profitable yet that keeps any discussion of dividends totally off the table.

However, there are a handful of cannabis stocks that do pay nice dividends. The three with the highest dividend yield s are Altria Group (NYSE: MO), Molson Coors Brewing (NYSE: TAP), and Scotts Miracle-Gro (NYSE: SMG). You might not view these three as cannabis stocks, but thanks to key deals each of these companies has made, that's what they are.
