What could you buy with 150 metric tons of weed?

Given the average Canadian prices for cannabis total $10 a gram (according to one of the most recent StatsCan surveys), you could buy a small village (or one Vancouver mansion) with this amount of weed.

As it turns out, 150 metric tons of cannabis is approximately how much Canadian producers have stored away for a rainy day.

That’s a lot of the green stuff, and despite what you may otherwise hear in the media about shortages and stores not being able to source product – really, it really boils down to layers of government inefficiency that have been injected into an industry thriving on its own via private dispensaries for more than a decade — dispensaries which in many cases are now illegal and must yield to the insurmountable force of the Canadian government.

Could hemp and cannabidiol (CBD) be the answer to the anxiety epidemic?

If you’ve been stressed lately, you’re not alone.

More Americans are stressed out than ever before. From tighter incomes to increased work pressures to a more divided political landscape to, of course, anguish over social media popularity, the pressure has become more than many of us can bear calmly.

Anxiety, it seems, has become a national epidemic.

In June of 2017, the New York Times featured a front-page article headlined “An Anxious Nation,” declaring that we have entered a troubling new “Age of Anxiety.”

A year later, in August of 2018, the Washington Post repeated the claim, noting that a whopping 79% of Americans are frequently stressed.

And it’s only getting worse.

Even if you aren’t a big investor, chances are you’re still aware that the marijuana industry has been the hottest thing since the internet on the stock market.

Yet even as stocks go up and down, there is still a lot of opportunity to grow in the future. Wall Street estimates that worldwide, cannabis sales could be worth up to US$75 billion a decade from now.

THC slushies, pirate radio and the cannabis-driven boom in a Mohawk community

Driving down Highway 401 in southern Ontario, with the FM dial tuned to 87.9, the 1990s-era rap music fades into an ad, offering a free joint with every purchase over $20 between midnight and 4:20 a.m. at the Pot Shoppe.

A second ad then promotes a "car show for Jeeps" in the parking lot of the Pot Shoppe every Tuesday night.

"Don't forget, we have free coffee for the driver and our famous Pot Shoppe slushies at half-price for the passenger," the ad says. "THC-infused slushies — just a little more brain freeze."

2 penny stock marijuana plays that could make you rich

Penny stocks -- those trading under $5 per share -- are risky by their very nature. And that statement is arguably doubly true for cannabis stocks. Numerous pot companies, after all, have run afoul of regulators for questionable business practices in the past.

Early search for CannTrust buyer underway amid Health Canada probe: Sources

As CannTrust Holdings Inc. (TRST.TO 2.67%) awaits its fate after running afoul of federal regulators, BNN Bloomberg has learned there’s early-stage interest behind the scenes to find a white knight that could potentially spare the cannabis producer from losing its licences if Health Canada exercises the full extent of its enforcement power.

Multiple sources directly familiar with the matter told BNN Bloomberg that at least two Canadian cannabis producers have been approached by bankers to gauge interest in acquiring CannTrust. Such a move could help keep the beleaguered company operating and stave off the worst-case scenario of losing its sales or processing licences as a result of unlicensed production at one of its facilities.

Mention legal cannabis, and many people think of the weed stores that have sprung up in Boston, Denver, Seattle, and other major U.S. cities.
