Drug smuggler caught with £100k cannabis in suitcase

A drug smuggler was caught arriving at Edinburgh Airport with a suitcase filled with with cannabis worth more than £100,000 on the streets.

Henry Alden was intercepted by border control officers after picking up the case when he arrived on a flight from Barcelona.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Alden, 20, claimed he had been in the Spanish city for a fortnight but enquiries revealed he had flown from Luton to Barcelona five days earlier.

Prosecutor Bruce Erroch told the court: “He advised the officers that the suitcase was his, that he had packed it himself and that he was not carrying anything for anyone else.”

Hawaii medical marijuana dispensary licenses likely to be awarded on point scale

The process to determine Hawaii’s first medical marijuana dispensary license holders will likely be based on a point scale, state officials said Wednesday.

But just how transparent the application process will be has yet to be determined.

Medical marijuana has been legal in the Islands for 15 years, but this year’s Act 241 sets up guidelines for the first retail system of up to 16 dispensaries statewide.

Prohibition of medicinal cannabis 'a mystery to all reasonable people'

Of course we should have legal access to cannabis for medicinal use in New Zealand. That it is still prohibited, at all, is a mystery to all reasonable people.

Estimates from the latest New Zealand Health Department surveyshow the number of adults aged 15 and over that used cannabis in the past year is 11 per cent. This figure has remained stable for many years.

One in three of those adults said they used cannabis weekly; that's nearly 150,000 people. Some surveys suggest that there may be 70,000 daily users.

Group proposing marijuana law in Massachusetts

Ballot questions would permit recreational use of marijuana

Massachusetts voters could get a chance to decide whether to legalize the recreational use of marijuana if any of several proposed pro-pot questions filed with the state attorney general's office Wednesday reach the 2016 ballot.

A group called The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol submitted an initiative petition on Wednesday that would allow adults 21 years of age and older to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana and also grow a "limited" amount of the plant in their homes.

Two marijuana advocacy groups on Wednesday are set to submit proposed ballot initiatives that would allow Massachusetts voters to decide whether to legalize recreational pot smoking in the state.

The initiatives could become part of a wave of similar measures put before voters in a half-dozen U.S. states in 2016 as pro-marijuana groups follow a strategy that has already legalized the drug in four states plus the District of Columbia.

What will legalization in Canada look like?

By

Legalization of marijuana for adult use (‘recreational’) would appear inevitable. Two dozen US states have now legalized cannabis in some form or another, from recreational to very strict medical regulations. Over half of the US states on Canada’s borders have some form of medical marijuana laws on their books. British Columbia finds itself with legal marijuana (both ‘recreational’ and medical) at its northern and southern borders. And it’s not just the US. Countries from Uruguay to Australia have been figuring out how to manage some form of regulation, with some of them even looking to Canada’s MMPR for guidance.

Ballot Initiative To Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol In Massachusetts To Be Filed Today

A statewide ballot initiative to regulate marijuana like alcohol in Massachusetts will be filed today at 1 p.m. ET with the office of state Attorney General Maura Healy. The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol (CRMLA) will hold a media availability outside of the office immediately prior to submitting the measure inside.

“Next year, voters will have the opportunity to end the failed policy of prohibition and replace it with a more sensible system,” said campaign director Will Luzier, a former assistant attorney general who previously served as executive director of the Massachusetts Interagency Council on Substance Abuse and Prevention. “Marijuana is significantly less harmful than alcohol, and our laws should reflect that.”

Suspended Cops Say Video of Them Eating Marijuana Edibles During a Raid Violated Their Privacy

Remember the Santa Ana, California, cops who were caught on video munching on what seem to be cannabis-infused chocolate bars after raiding an unlicensed medical marijuana dispensary in May? The Orange County Register reports that three officers who were suspended after the incident are trying to stop the Santa Ana Police Department from using the footage in its internal investigation. Among other things, their lawsuit argues that the officers thought they had disabled all of the security cameras at Sky High Holistic and therefore had a reasonable expectation of privacy. The cops complain that the dispensary never got their permission to record them as they searched the premises.

Here is the video in case you missed it:

Donald Trump: Where 2016 Candidate Stands on Gun Control, Marijuana and Immigration

Billionaire investor Donald Trump has offered his unbridled remarks on everything from Mexican immigration to Sen. John McCain's military career and mocked or attacked several of his presidential running mates, but, as political experts have pointed out, the White House hopeful has offered little so far in the way of actual policy platforms.

Here's where Trump stands on three of the leading issues of our time: marijuana, gun control and immigration.

On marijuana legalization

Despite having called for the legalization of all drugs 25 years ago, Trump most recently said he didn't like the idea of legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes, but basically said it should be up to states to decide.
