Despite What The NYPD Says, Synthetic Pot Will Not Turn You Into The Hulk

Experts told BuzzFeed News that, contrary to what New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton wants the public to believe, synthetic marijuana does not give people “superhuman strength.”

NEW YORK — He might as well have been talking about the Incredible Hulk, or narrating the plot of a later-day Reefer Madness.

On Tuesday, New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton painted a terrifying picture of the effects of synthetic marijuana. Speaking at a news conference at police headquarters, the head of the NYPD said that users of the product known as “K2” or “Spice” can acquire “superhuman strength” and “imperviousness to pain.”

But it turns out the commissioner was at least partially wrong.

Lansing medical marijuana cases drag on as law evolves

Marijuana plants sit on display at a Lansing store last spring. The state’s evolving medical marijuana law has left some prosecutioss lingering for years.(Photo: Dave Wasinger/Lansing State Journal)

LANSING – One law and the case against three men have been in limbo for years as the justice system tries to determine what’s legal and what’s not when it comes to medical marijuana.

The case against the men — Zebediah Dewey, Daniel Corbin and Michael Lewis Jr. — is an example of how the poorly drafted medical marijuana law that didn’t set up a clear legal mechanism for patients to buy the drug is still evolving in Michigan’s courts.

Virginia Beach cop used his nose to locate marijuana grow operation

A Virginia Beach police officer helped locate a marijuana grow operation earlier this year, as well as four pounds of processed pot, some cocaine and more than $92,000 in cash.

And his secret weapon? His nose.

Alonzo D. Bell, 32, of Virginia Beach, was indicted Wednesday in U.S. District Court on five felonies – including possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and maintaining a drug involved premises. An arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.

Assistant Federal Public Defender Suzanne Katchmar declined to comment on the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Darryl Mitchell did not immediately return an email.

Is Marijuana Closer To Making It Off The Schedule I Drug List?

Despite the fact that it has become legal in many states across the US, marijuana is still seen as a criminal substance in the eyes of the federal government. That means at a federal level, marijuana is listed alongside drugs like heroin and LSD as a Schedule I drug with no known medical uses.

This classification has made it difficult for researchers to test the effects of marijuana on certain illnesses and has created a host of questions as to how the conflicting laws will impact the industry as a whole.

'Hey, Gov. Chris Christie, I'll race ya,' says amputee, pot advocate

Gov. Chris Christie has been sounding off about marijuana – medical, recreational, whatever.

Rich Canci has heard enough of his "ridiculous campaign."

The New Jersey governor has been making the rounds as a hopeful for the 2016 presidential campaign, declaring his unequivocal opposition to legalizing pot for recreational use. Considering it a "gateway drug," he has even kept a stranglehold on its medical purposes in his home state where he signed its use into law.

While he grabs headlines, Canci, a 24-year-old Annadale resident, uses his favorite social media platforms to scream back.

Pot growers not wasting water

By Ellen Komp, Deputy Director of California NORML

Media outlets, including The Sacramento Bee’s editorial board, and public officials, including the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, have seized upon statements from state Fish and Wildlife officials about marijuana and water use in a few creeks in Northern California to greatly overstate the problem, causing unfair backlash for genuine medical marijuana patients.

California NORML has challenged the figure of 5 to 10 gallons of water per day that’s being used to further vilify cannabis during the drought (“Pot grown outside is a waste of water,” Editorials, July 31).

Gary Johnson – Shifting From High Level Politics To Cannabis

Gary Johnson, in addition to being a former 2-Term Governor of New Mexico and a 2012 United States Presidential candidate, is also one of the cannabis industry’s biggest political advocates. Recently, he made a transition that is rarely seen in America today, and that is the shift from high level politics to the cannabis industry. While Gary may or may not be a candidate for President again in 2016, he is already the President of Cannabis Sativa Inc., a company poised to innovate the future of casual cannabis by branding and marketing the highest-quality cannabis products available. Gary accomplishments span a much wider range than just politics, he has climbed the highest mountain on each of the 7 continents, including Mt.

State lawmakers to Congress: Butt out of our marijuana laws

State lawmakers are calling on the federal government to change its drug laws to let states experiment with marijuana and hemp policy.

The National Conference of State Legislatures, the de facto bipartisan group of lawmakers, passed a resolution at its annual meeting Thursday calling on the federal government to amend the Controlled Substances Act to authorize state marijuana laws and on the administration to keep its nose out of state pot policies.

Rural Maryland sees jobs, not vice, in medical marijuana

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Washington County is a proudly conservative place. Voters here haven’t backed a Democrat for president since 1964, and same-sex marriage lost by a landslide in a referendum three years ago.

But when Chicago-based Green Thumb Industries pitched a proposal to put a medical-marijuana production plant here, the county’s five county commissioners — Republicans all — passed a resolution unanimously supporting the plan.

Residents of Hagerstown, the county seat, seem to be taking the news in stride. The consensus: yes to marijuana for relieving pain, no to recreational use.

“I think it’s all right as long as it’s only for medical. I don’t want a lot of potheads,” said Leo Myers, 61, a security worker at the Mack Truck plant.

State Lawmakers Want Feds To Respect Their Marijuana Laws

State lawmakers agree: The federal government should not interfere with states that set their own marijuana laws.

The National Conference of State Legislatures, a nongovernment organization composed of state lawmakers and their staffs, passed a resolution Thursday urging the federal government to amend the Controlled Substances Act and other federal laws "to explicitly allow states to set their own marijuana and hemp policies without federal interference" and to refrain from undermining state marijuana and hemp laws.
