Revenue Trends in the I-502 Cannabis Market – in spite of punitive taxes and local obstruction

Overall revenue within the I-502 State-legal Cannabis market continues to steadily increase in a largely consistent (linear) fashion, driven largely by the ever-increasing number of Retail stores licensed by the LCB (154, as of May 18 … with approximately 140 actually open for business). Should the LCB continue to grant retail licenses at the current rate, all 334 allocated stores should be licensed by May 15, 2016.

Marijuana as medicine? Let's decide this by science, not emotion: Stephanie Haynes

Senate Bill 143 will legalize marijuana (cannabinoids) as a medicine and take Louisiana back to  100 years ago, before there was any regulation of medicine by the federal Food and Drug Administration. That regulation has given us the best medicine approval process in the world. All medicines must be proven to be safe and effective by the FDA. SB 143 removes the safeguards that are in our state law that require that cannabinoid medicines meet FDA standards.

Hitting the green? Retail pot stores looking to cash in during U.S. Open

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — The U.S. Open is coming to Chambers Bay in just three weeks, and it means a big boost to our local economy. Local pot shops see the opportunity as well.

With the U.S. Open set to begin on June 15, the greens on Chambers Bay aren`t the only ones getting ready — so are the ones ‘World of Weed’ will soon stock in its shelves.

“We were really pushing to get open for the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay,” said Alden Linn, general manger of World of Weed, a retail pot store expected to open next week.

Retail marijuana stores are one of the many industries expecting to cash in the week of the U.S. Open Championship, a topic Tacoma city leaders even mentioned in an April study session.

Despite Reforms Federal Medical Marijuana Raids Continue In South Lake Tahoe

Remember last year when the United States Congress passed a bill that de-funded medical marijuana raids in states where medical marijuana is legal? And remember when the Obama Administration replaced the head of the D.E.A. because he thought she was out of touch? The Los Angeles Times stated the following when Congress de-funded medical marijuana raids late last year:

Under the provision, states where medical pot is legal would no longer need to worry about federal drug agents raiding retail operations. Agents would be prohibited from doing so.

Legal Marijuana Dealers And The Government Need Bankers And Lawyers

As of today, 23 states and the District of Columbia have legalized medicinal marijuana and four have legalized its recreational use as well. Despite that, marijuana remains a so-called Schedule I controlled substance – alongside “hard” drugs like heroin, cocaine, and LSD – and federal law still makes the distribution of marijuana a crime, even in those states where it is legal.

It is not unusual for legal marijuana businesses to become entangled in government investigations. Although it wasn’t my focus, as a former federal prosecutor I sometimes investigated unlawful drug trafficking organizations. Following the drugs and money back to their source increasingly led to marijuana businesses in states that had legalized it.

Marijuana Stock Valuation

By Sean Bryant.

Washington, Colorado, Alaska, and Oregon have already legalized the use of recreational marijuana. Twenty-three states in total have made the drug legal for medicinal use. This relatively new legalization has allowed dozens of new companies that specialize in the plant to emerge. Some of those companies have gone public and offer a new investment niche: pot stocks. But how do you know if you are getting a good deal? How are these stocks even valued? If you want to get in on (nearly) the ground floor of marijuana stocks, keep reading. But remember, as with all new industries and new stocks, investing is risky and one act of legislation could render the companies worthless.

Did hunter-gatherers smoke marijuana to stay healthy? Ancient humans developed a taste for ...

  • This is according to a study on cannabis use among the Aka foragers
  • Aka offer anthropologists a window into a way of life of our ancestors
  • Higher cannabis use among the Aka is linked to less intestinal worms
  • They may unconsciously use medical marijuana to help fight parasites

Just like we use medical marijuana today, cavemen smoked cannabis to stay healthy.

This is according to a new study on cannabis use among the Aka foragers, a 'pygmy' people of the Congo basin.

US researchers have found that the more the hunter-gatherers smoke cannabis, the less likely they are infected by intestinal worms.

Lawmakers pushing for marijuana-vote-a-rama

Lawmakers are prepping for what could turn into a "marijuana-vote-a-rama" Wednesday, sources say.

Pot advocates expect lawmakers to introduce at least half a dozen marijuana-related appropriations amendments that would roll back the Justice Department’s authority to enforce drug laws around the country.

The marijuana amendments would handicap the Department of Justice (DOJ) in its fight with states over the enforcement of local pot laws.

“The politics have continued to shift in favor of marijuana law reform,” said Tom Angell, chairman of the Marijuana Majority.

30 days until Oregon legalizes pot

On July 1, Oregonians can grow up to 8 plants, possess up to 8 ounces and be allowed to carry up to an ounce away from home

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Thirty days. One month. That’s all that’s left before Oregon becomes the 4th state to legalize recreational marijuana.

When voters passed Measure 91 last November, it set into motion a two-tiered process for pot legalization. On July 1, possession will be legal. On January 4, 2016, retail sales applications will be taken, with retail sales sometime later in the year.
