Yeah Mon! Jamaica Finally Joins the Party

In my lifetime, the island nation of Jamaica, which gained its independence from Great Britain in 1962, has been one of the world’s most cannabis-friendly nations, both for locals and for tourists. While technically marijuana, or ganja as they call it in Jamaica, was until recently illegal, in fact marijuana and marijuana smoking was largely ignored by authorities, and one could not get through the airport at either Negril or Kingston without being offered marijuana by several local entrepreneurs, competing for your business.

I know because I accepted the hospitality of these “Welcome Wagon” connections on a couple of occasions, and found the product to be excellent, and the cost was a bargain, at least compared to high-quality home-grown marijuana in the US.

Chris Christie on drugs: A nanny states his case for more federal bureaucracy

The Monmouth University Poll released Monday did not hold any good news for a certain New Jersey governor. Chris Christie finished 14thamong candidates for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. He was favored by just 1 percent of potential Iowa caucus-goers.

The cut-off line for the big Fox News debate Aug. 6 is the top 10. This poll couldn't have come at a worse time for Christie.

But Christie did catch a break last week. The media largely ignored his big speech on criminal justice reform.

Spurrier on discipline for marijuana: 'three pots and you're finished' - CBSSports.com

Steve Spurrier spoke on his policies regarding player discipline. (USATSI)

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier went through the ESPN car wash on Tuesday, as have all the SEC coaches this week, and in the morning he joined Mike and Mike for a 10-minute radio spot. Spurrier spoke on the South Carolina quarterback competition and changes to the SEC since he started coaching. He also pumped up his star wide receiver Pharoh Cooper.

The conversation also turned to the topic of discipline for domestic violence cases, something that has unfortunately become a common talking point in college football. Spurrier has discussed this issue plenty of times, including at the 2015 SEC Media Days last week, so the hosts asked him about his zero tolerance rule for hitting girls.

Inside Bill to Expunge Some Federal Marijuana Crimes

Oregon House Representative Earl Blumenauer plans to introduce a bill to Congress today that would clear and expunge particular federal marijuana offenses that are no longer illegal in a number of states across the country — but some marijuana activists are skeptical of how many people it would actually help.

The Clean Slate for Marijuana Offenses Act of 2015 would clear criminals records of those who were federally charged with marijuana activity that was state-legal at the time and those who were federally charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana. Bluemenauer, a supporter of cannabis legalization at the federal level, attacked what he calls "failed prohibition" in a prepared statement.
