Marijuana Taxes Go Up In Smoke For One Day In Colorado

It isn’t April 20, but Colorado is staging its own version of pot day. It sounds odd, but the state claims tax law is forcing it to suspend taxes on recreational marijuana for one day, September 16, 2015. The bizarre tax holiday is due to what Gov. Hickenlooper called a fiscal glitch in the state constitution. Value buyers may note that the holiday should shave about $20 off the price of a mid-grade ounce of marijuana. There could be huge crowds and hoarders.

Drug Warriors Say 'Bring Back The War On Drugs,' Because It Totally Worked

For most Americans, including some presidential candidates, the record on the U.S.-led drug war is settled: After spending more than $1 trillion on efforts that have taken or destroyed the lives of millions around the world, drug purity has risen, prices have fallen and rates of use have remained the same. It has, in no uncertain terms, been a catastrophic failure.

The Trouble With Marijuana Taxation

I believe that all states will legalize marijuana in the next five years. There will be several proposals this year to legalize the stuff that made Cheech and Chong famous. Currently, 23 states and the District of Columbia have laws legalizing marijuana in some form. Most of them use the guise of medical necessity to allow their citizens to get high. The District of Columbia, Alaska, Oregon, Colorado, and Washington make no pretense — if you want to smoke a joint there, knock yourself out.

Oregon: What to do when medical marijuana is legal

Many times we get the question from employers asking what to do when medical marijuana is legal. What can employers learn from municipalities in the state of Oregon? Oregon is a state where marijuana is an acceptable medical treatment alternative.

We think it is perfectly legitimate to have the same attitude about marijuana as you do about alcohol. Hopefully, your firm just does not tolerate being under the influence of alcohol. Likewise it is appropriate to have the same attitude about marijuana, even if you are in a state with legalized marijuana laws.

Interestingly enough, there was an article listing Oregon municipalities’ policies regarding this topic as listed in The Oregonia by Nuran Alteir. And, as you know, Oregon has legalized marijuana.

Cannabis compliance: Why good books, solid security and great tech are key

The cannabis industry has come a long way. Four states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana, and voters in up to five more states might do the same next year. Plenty of businesses have launched to successfully sell (and legally, I might add) cannabis and extracts.

The Stratospheric Rise of Medical Marijuana in Epilepsy

The stratospheric rise of medical marijuana as a possible recognized treatment for epilepsy, now underway, is an example of what can be achieved through the sharing of personal stories on the Internet and social media, according to a leading expert in the field.

Daniel Friedman, MD, New York University (NYU) Langone School of Medicine, is a coauthor a review article, "Cannabinoids in the Treatment of Epilepsy," published in the September 10 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine.
