Alaska Marijuana Board should regulate businesses that permit adult use

The Marijuana Control Board is in the final stages of crafting regulations that will guide Alaska’s forthcoming legal marijuana industry. Proponents of Ballot Measure 2 believe the vast majority of rules proposed so far realize both its spirit and intent. However, we are concerned that a few remaining provisions overlook important rights for Alaskans granted under the initiative. By far the most troubling is the fact that the proposed rules do not allow for social consumption in any establishments.

Heading to Colorado for a Joint? Where Are You Going to Smoke It?

On January 1, 2014, Colorado became one of the first states to allow recreational marijuana sales. But the law contains one little twist.

"People can buy it. They can use it. But in a lot of cases, they don’t have anywhere they can use it legally," says Mason Tvert of the Marijuana Policy Project.

Yes, weed is legal in Colorado. But it’s illegal to consume it in most public locations.

The Next President Must End the War on Cannabis

When the latest round of Democratic presidential candidates stepped out on to the stage in Nevada to give the American people a first-ever televised meet-and-greet with the political figures marred with certifiable delusions of changing the United States for the better, it was apparent from the beginning that the event had been secretly billed “The Hillary Clinton and the Bernie Sanders Show.” With the former First Lady positioned directly in the middle of a zoo of unpredictable political animals, the initial tone of the so-called debate suggested that at least one of the well-dressed snarling dogs would be eaten alive in front of millions of viewers before

Detroit's Marijuana Ordinance Contains Illegal And Unfair Provisions

ILLEGAL AND UNFAIR PROVISIONS?

Many of the observers at the City of Detroit Zoning Board meeting on October 15 objected to some of the punitive and outright illegal proposals contained within the city’s ordinance regulating medical marijuana distribution centers in the city. Several attorneys who spoke to the Commission pointed out that at least one of their provisions likely violates state law, and others are just mean.

More info needed on marijuana

The votes are advisory only, meaning it's up to tribal leaders on the next step.

We all need more and better information about the pros and cons of marijuana. What can pain management doctors tell us about the value of it for their patients? And what detrimental effects does it have on people?

Law enforcement officials certainly have some opinions about the impact of marijuana on drivers. Judges and attorneys certainly could add some perspectives on the usage of marijuana, especially regarding its potential to create additional illegal drug use.

Newsflash: Marijuana Consumers Don't Give Out Infused Halloween Candy To Kids

It’s almost Halloween, so you know what that means – marijuana prohibitionists and some law enforcement agencies are dusting off the ‘marijuana Halloween candy epidemic’ argument again. Make sure to be on the lookout parents, because at any moment your child could come home with an insane amount of marijuana edibles now that marijuana is legal in four states and Washington D.C.. These scare tactics of course are nothing more than an urban legend, similar to the razor blade in the apple (who gives out apples on Halloween anyways?) story.

Medical marijuana advocates will rally for access at Kansas Capitol

Silent protest planned at Kansas Capitol

Medical marijuana supporters are planning a silent protest at the Kansas Capitol in Topeka next month.

The protest, organized by Bleeding Kansas, is meant to memorialize those who have died in the state without the right to use marijuana to heal, according to the group’s Facebook page.

The group’s “Day of the Kansas Dead” rally is set for Nov. 7.

Bleeding Kansas is an organization working to promote awareness and support for the Kansas Cannabis Compassionate Care Act.

Reality Check: U.S. Non-Violent Drug Offenders Incarceration Rate Is Shameful

Nearly 6,000 federal prisoners are about to be set free.

It’s part of a new program that is releasing non-violent drug offenders after three decades of policies that have kept them locked up. But is 6,000 barely scratching the surface of what needs to happen?

This is a Reality Check you won’t get anywhere else.

At the end of this month, the Federal Bureau of Prisons will release about 6,000 federal prison inmates who have been locked up for years for non-violent drug offenses.

This will be the largest one-time release of federal prisoner ever. It’s an effort, we are told, to reduce overcrowding and provide relief to drug offenders who received harsh sentences over the past three decades.

Las Vegas police face civil rights lawsuit over medical marijuana arrests

A former Las Vegas woman claims she and a guest were falsely imprisoned in 2013 after police searched her home and illegally confiscated her supply of medical marijuana.

Courtney Rogalski, a medical marijuana patient who now lives in Canada, and California resident Westley McNeal filed a civil rights lawsuit in August against the Metropolitan Police Department and several officers. In September, the defendants transferred the case from Clark County District Court to U.S. District Court.

Attorney Craig Anderson, who is representing Metro in the litigation, could not be reached for comment.

According to the lawsuit, Las Vegas police detectives searched Rogalski's home on Aug. 30, 2013, with a warrant signed by Justice of the Peace Cynthia Cruz.
