Welcome to Weedstock

At the after-party for the National Cannabis Summit — an annual conference thick with entrepreneurs and business people, held in the bowels of the Sheraton in downtown Denver — eight of us attendees boogied alongside one of the more engaging speakers, the medical researcher Dr. Suzanne Sisley, who wore throughout the party a towering, purple velvet Mad Hatter’s hat. Remembering that in her speech she had said, “I’ve never tried marijuana in any form,” I wanted to whisper in her ear, “But your millinery tells a different story.”

Colorado Cannabis CEO Urges State Voters to Turn Down a Controversial Tax Ballot Measure in the November 3 Elections

The CEO of Denver-based Kindman says Proposition BB won’t create the anticipated financial windfall for school construction and education program, and says a ‘no’ vote on the issue would mean more money returned to consumers’ pockets – and more jobs for the local economy

Colorado residents are considering a unique ballot measure on Tuesday, November 3; and the CEO of one of the state’s largest recreational cannabis companies is calling on voters to vote “No” against Proposition BB.

According to Colorado state law, anytime an estimated tax is exceeded that excess amount is targeted for a refund to taxpayers.

How 'The Marijuana Show' co-founders smoked 'Shark Tank'

This show has invested millions in budding entrepreneurs, and it isn’t “Shark Tank.”

“The Marijuana Show” launched its first 13-episode season online last year, providing a broadcast platform for marijuana companies to pitch their ideas to interested investors. It just wrapped its second season, which ended up with $13 million in total investments from four new investors, who are described as more “dolphin” than shark for their willingness to mentor contestants.

12 things we know (and don't know) about Bernie Sanders's marijuana proposal

On Wednesday night, Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders announced a proposal to dramatically shift marijuana policy in the United States. At a campaign stop in Virginia, Sen. Sanders announced he would be proposing new legislation in the coming weeks to remove cannabis from the list of Controlled Substances—a move many call “descheduling.” In many ways, this would be the most aggressive change—short of national legalization—that Congress could make, and Sanders is the most prominent official in the United States to support such a move. There is a bit we know about what this proposal could mean, and there is much we don’t quite yet know. Let’s break down each.

What do we know about Sanders’ descheduling proposal?

How evolving public attitudes on marijuana could affect the 2016 presidential race

Pot is very much on the minds of voters, with millions poised to decide whether to legalize it. That raises a tantalizing question for presidential candidates: Is there political opportunity in the wind?

Some are beginning to believe there is.

The latest sign was the full-throated call last week by Sen. Bernie Sanders to end federal prohibition. With that one move, the candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination plunged into uncharted territory — and, arguably, so did the presidential race.

Never before has a contender with so much to lose so unequivocally suggested that smoking a joint should be viewed the same as drinking a beer, at least in the eyes of the law.

Marijuana vote in Ohio difficult to predict

The television commercials, direct-mail ads, endorsements and debates are over: It’s time to decide whether marijuana will be legal in Ohio.

Eyes across the country will be on the Buckeye State on Tuesday to see what voters decide on State Issue 3, the for-profit constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana in smokable and edible form for recreational use for those 18 or older, and for patients of any age with qualifying medical conditions.

The warring campaigns — ResponsibleOhio and Ohioans Against Marijuana Monopolies — are as different as you can imagine.

ResponsibleOhio is backed almost exclusively by 10 groups of wealthy investors who were expected to spend upward of $25 million on the legalization campaign.

Dumb Things GOP Candidates Have Said About Legal Marijuana

The Republican presidential candidates are facing off yet again in another primary debate to be held at the University of Colorado Boulder-so you can guarantee they’ll be asked about that state’s wildly successful experiment with marijuana legalization. Given this theme and the debate’s location in the first state to legalize marijuana, it’s likely that the state’s recreational marijuana industry will be discussed. “You’re not going to get the psychosis or schizophrenia trend lines in just a year or two”.

The Wrong Way to Legalize Marijuana?

Ohio may be on the brink of creating America’s first marijuana ‘monopoly.’

n the surface, Ian James sounds like any other idealistic marijuana advocate: He’s critical of the war on drugs, he touts the economic and tax benefits of legalization and uses the familiar rebuttal against the “think of the children!” argument by pointing out that dealers are currently selling pot to kids and dispensaries will be carding customers. But James, the man behind this Tuesday’s ballot measure to legalize marijuana in Ohio, is motivated by more than his political convictions.

How to get on Delaware's marijuana list

Susan Humphreys likes to say she lives a strange life.

Picture frames are glued to the walls of her Bear home. The refrigerator has a lock.

The precautions were for her son, Scott, who suffered from autism and was extremely aggressive. Scott was diagnosed with Pica as well, a persistent eating condition causing people to almost unconsciously eat non-food items such as nails and dirt.

By the time he reached 41 Scott had used over 20 antipsychotic medications and had three major surgeries to remove items he had eaten from his body.

Her son was running out of medicinal options to try, Humphreys said, so she decided to look into a more natural approach: medical marijuana.

California’s New Medical Marijuana Legislation: Cue the Bad Lawsuits

We’ve written extensively of late about both California’s Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act (MMRSA) and about the nationwide uptick in cannabis-related litigation (see herehere andhere), so it comes as no surprise that there is already a lawsuit challenging the state constitutionality of California’s
