New Technique Could More Accurately Measure Cannabinoid Dosage in Marijuana Munchies

As more states decriminalize recreational use of marijuana and expand its medical applications, concern is growing about inconsistent and inaccurate dosage information listed on many products, including brownies and other edibles. But now scientists report that they have developed a technique that can more precisely measure cannabis compounds in gummy bears, chocolates and other foods made with marijuana. They say this new method could help ensure product safety in the rapidly expanding cannabis retail market.

The researchers present their work today at the 251st National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Colorado Just Recalled More Marijuana Because of Illegally Used Pesticides

Colorado cannabis regulators on Monday recalled medical and recreational marijuana grown by two cannabis businesses — RR Services and Advanced Medical Alternatives — over concerns the plants were grown with unapproved pesticides.

The recalls, called health advisories by the state, are the tenth and eleventh holds announced by the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division in less than one month.

The advisories note that 42 batches of RR Services’ marijuana and 10 batches of Advanced Medical Alternatives’ cannabis each tested positive for myclobutanil, a fungicide considered “slightly hazardous” by the World Health Organization and a “Bad Actor” by the Pesticide Action Network.

Cyndimae Meehan, Who Inspired Medical Marijuana Law, Dies at 13 in Maine

The Meehan family moved to Maine to have legal access to cannabis to treat Cyndimae's rare form of epilepsy, and she was able to attend school after the passage of legislation last year.

On her last day, Cyndimae Meehan did the things she loved.

She colored. She played. She took a nap in her father’s arms.

Cyndimae, whose fight for access to medical cannabis to treat a rare form of epilepsy brought her and her mother before legislators in Maine and Connecticut, died Sunday while sleeping on her father’s chest on the couch in their Augusta home. She was 13.

The Man Mapping the Marijuana Genome Is Changing the Weed Game

Because he’s a scientist, not a back-slapping venture capitalist, Mowgli Holmes loathes using the term networking to describe even the portion of his job that entails shaking hands in the cannabis industry. But it was networking that brought the chief scientific officer of Phylos Bioscience in Portland, Oregon, to Las Vegas in November 2014 to attend the Marijuana Business Conference and Expo—and to smoke a massive joint with one of the cannabis movement’s legends, Ohio lawyer Don Wirtshafter.
