Canopy Growth Says Number of Medical Marijuana Patients More Than Tripled

Canada’s largest publicly traded marijuana company says it has had a hard time keeping up with demand for high-potency pot as its list of registered medical marijuana patients more than tripled at the end of last year.

Canopy Growth Corp. (TSX:WEED) says about one-third of its customers want moderate to high levels of THC, the psychoactive chemical in marijuana, and they’re willing to pay a premium price for it.

“And we really didn’t have that in the (October-December) quarter – almost ever,” CEO Bruce Linton said Tuesday on a conference call after the company reported its third quarter results.

Montreal Landlords Seek to Ban Marijuana With New Clause, but Can They?

Some Montreal landlords are banning the use of cannabis in their rental units.

As the likely legalization of marijuana looms, many are currently renewing leases with a new clause that forbids tenants from smoking up.

Rental property owners are asking tenants to sign new leases which would include a ban on smoking cannabis anywhere on the property.

Landlords say they’re concerned the legalization of marijuana will cause a problem akin to complaints from neighbours about noise or cigarette smoking.

If the smell is too strong, just like if noise is too loud, it can be considered a nuisance that affects the quality of life of the other tenants.

Landlord Christian Perron said tenants who are annoyed by marijuana smoke could see their rent reduced.

Canadian Cannabis Industry Opposes Call for Plain Packaging and Bans on Advertising

Garfield Mahood has spent 30 years fighting for the Canadian government to require plain packaging for cigarettes.

So, the long-time non-smokers' rights activist says he doesn't have much faith in the government's ability to regulate and restrict the marketing of marijuana.

"They identified tobacco products as a cause of disease back in the 1950s," said Mahood, president of the Campaign for Justice on Tobacco Fraud. "They've never been able to bring this epidemic close to a conclusion.

"What would give you faith that health departments are going to effectively regulate any health problems related to these other drugs?"

When churches become marijuana dispensaries

It was probably inevitable, especially on the cannabis-loving West Coast.

A Christian church has been turned into a marijuana dispensary.

The quaint building that used to house Shawnigan United Church on Vancouver Island has now been “re-christened” the Green Tree Medicinal Dispensary.

There is symbolic power in the transformation. And, depending on your tastes, the metaphorical shift is positive or negative.

The anti-religious might cheer that a church, which many stereotype as a bastion of supernaturalism and conservative social morality, has finally joined the live-and-let-live West Coast zeitgest.

Canada's Weed Business Just Got Gigantic

Canopy Growth makes big score with last week’s acquisition of marijuana rival Mettrum Health.

Before it became “medical or adult-use cannabis,” it was weed, an illegal plant grown in basements and sold in back alleys. Now it’s a publicly traded commodity that’s expanding on a global scale.

One company that’s been growing almost faster than the rest of the industry is Canopy Growth Corporation, and on February 1 it got permission for a significant growth spurt.

Canadian Police Reject Proposals for Homegrown Cannabis

The Globe and Mail reports that police chiefs in Canada have rebuffed certain recommendations in a federal paper on cannabis legalisation.

“Hold off on home grows” is the main point that the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) are advocating, as the Canadian government makes preparations for cannabis legalisation in the coming months:

Well, Looks Like Canada Is This Much Closer To Legalizing Marijuana

Pot smokers and non smokers alike will agree that the current system of marijuana prohibition simply doesn’t work.

It doesn’t stop people from smoking, it wastes a monumental amount of resources, it makes criminals rich and it stops marijuana from being properly regulated.

Their mandate is simple:
