Justice minister nixes private pot sales proposal : N.W.T.

Several regular MLAs have expressed disappointment that the territorial government appears unwilling to entertain the idea of the private sale of cannabis once it becomes legal across Canada this summer.

It will be sold in government controlled liquor stores in the six communities that have liquor stores and otherwise through mail order.

Hay River MLA R.J. Simpson says the government is going against the wishes of the majority of NWT residents who have made their opinions known.

MLAs visited 16 communities and six schools across the territory earlier this year to get public input of Bill 6 – the government’s cannabis regulation bill.

The offences in BC's Cannabis Act

There has been a great deal of discussion about the British Columbia Cannabis Act, but there has not been a solid breakdown of all of the offences under the Act. In an effort to provide a helpful guide, this post summarizes all the offences laid out in the Cannabis Act.

What is particularly interesting about the penalties in the Cannabis Act, is that many of the offences for possession, production, and distribution mimic those in the proposed federal regulations. This would mean that police have the opportunity to charge individuals under the provincial law or the federal law.

Oliver's first medical marijuana dispensary open for business

A couple of entrepreneurs in Oliver have filled the gap for medical marijuana users in town.

Canna Cabana, a new medical marijuana dispensary located beside C & C Food Mart on Highway 97 just south of town, is open for business.

Although the dispensary has only been open for two weeks, plans for it have been in the works for over three years when Rick Stagg, one of the shop’s owners, started researching dispensaries.

“I just really wanted to wait and see how legislation was going to fall into place and I wanted to learn a little more.”

Global march continues as Canopy Growth moves into Africa

It’s become a cliche to mention how we are all connected on this earth and that our world continues to get smaller thanks to technology, but it’s the truth, and the cannabis industry is no different. On one hand, cannabis reform movements were very insular, especially in the United States as arguments supporting legalization that appeal to voters in Oregon and California may not be as successful in other states. Also, federal law has (mostly) kept cannabis businesses stuck within state borders. However, political movements have momentum and success has bred success across the globe. On the business side, Canada broke down international barriers and there’s no looking back.

What is CBD? The 'miracle' cannabis compound that doesn't get you high

The cannabis-derived chemical is non-psychoactive, and – while federally illegal – has been hailed as a cure for disease.

In early May, a federal court ruled that cannabidiol (CBD), a chemical produced by the cannabis plant, is federally illegal, in the same category as LSD and heroin, which the government considers to be dangerous and devoid of medical value.

Montreal has a brand new "weed" themed café

This café is lit!

If there is one thing, just one, that Montreal does right, I'd have to say its the coffee game.

I'd bet that most of you would probably agree, right? If not, that's cool too, your loss!

Montreal's café game is on point. Seriously, there are a good 6 independent café's within walking distance from my place, alone. It's usually not a question of there being a café nearby, but rather which café to go to.

Well, regardless of which Montreal borough you reside in, I have an answer that I'm sure you will find as intriguing as I do. Or maybe this one is a little more niche, but none the less - it is absolutely worth your consideration!

Cannabis: Not just about getting high

I grow many different things on our farm, but one of my favorites is cannabis. A little under two years ago, I purchased my first plants and haven't looked back. Since my first harvest, I have not used any NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen for any reason. I much prefer skipping all of the possible side effects of pharmaceuticals and rely on the medicinal uses of cannabis instead. My favorite way to harness the healing powers of the cannabis plant is in tincture or salve form. Topical applications will not cause a psychoactive response.
