Eyeing legal edibles, weed giant teams up with Almonte chocolate-maker Hummingbird

That’s because Hummingbird, which was launched in 2011 by Erica and Drew Gilmour, recently partnered with Canopy Growth Corp., the Smiths Falls-based, publicly traded marijuana company, to press ahead with creating a THC-laced chocolate product that could arguably appeal to gourmets who fancy a tasty buzz.

There is, of course, one big proviso. Production of such a product could only begin “if and when it becomes legal to do so,” Erica Gilmour says.

While recreational cannabis became legal in Canada this week, the legalization of edible pot products, which are hugely popular in other markets, has been put off because regulating them is especially complex.

Coca-Cannabis? Coke ‘closely watching’ possibility of cannabis in wellness drinks

The Coca-Cola Company said recently it is “closely watching” the expanding use of a cannabis element in drinks, another sign cannabis and cannabis-infused products are getting more acceptance in mainstream culture and a harder look from long-established pillars of American business.

The statement came after reports the beverage giant was in talks with a Canadian cannabis company to create a health drink infused with cannabidiol, a naturally occurring non-psychoactive compound derived from the cannabis plant.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, does not produce the high commonly associated with marijuana. It is believed by many to have anti-inflammation and pain-relieving properties. As a result, numerous CBD-infused products have emerged.

Better marijuana stock: Cronos Group vs. Supreme Cannabis

They say that a rising tide lifts all boats. But some boats have a more enjoyable ride.

Widespread interest in the cannabis industry has propelled many Canadian marijuana stocks higher in 2018. Cronos Group(NASDAQ:CRON) ranks as one of those stocks. But a smaller cannabis producer, Supreme Cannabis(NASDAQOTH:SPRWF), is still down year to date despite a nice run over the last couple of months.

Which of these two marijuana stocks is the better pick now? Here's how Cronos Group and Supreme Cannabis stack up against each other.

Nova Scotia cannabis users concerned over 'excessive' plastic packaging

Some Canadians are discovering smoking cannabis legally comes wrapped in a whole lot of plastic.

Nova Scotians who have purchased legal cannabis through the province's stores have been taking to social media, surprised their paper bags of pot are filled with so much packaging.

Greg MacLean says he was in disbelief when he bought a small portion of marijuana on the first day of legalization at a Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation store in Antigonish, N.S. "I took it home, and opened it all out and laid out all the packaging," he said. "That's when I realized how excessive it really was for just four grams of weed. It's too much." Each different product came wrapped in several layers of packaging, he said.

Here is why Aurora Cannabis Inc. (TSX:ACB) stock could erupt this week

Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock, you know that Canada legalized recreational cannabis this past Wednesday. The move generated considerable buzz both inside and outside the country. Cannabis stocks have surged in anticipation, but the performance was muted on the same trading day legalization became official.

Last week I’d also covered two of the top three cannabis producers that investors will need to keep on their radar into next year. Today we are going to look at Aurora Cannabis (TSX:ACB), which could be poised for an upswing this week.

Is cannabis legalization a threat to North American beer sales?

On Wednesday, recreational cannabis officially became legal for Canadians.

The response on October 17 – the day of – was largely a mixed bag *ahem*.

Some hailed it as a landmark day for the country’s cultural history and a celebration for all those who had been active in supporting the agenda to push for a more liberalized stance toward the drug. Others meanwhile scoffed and said that it was “just another day.” One thing that we do know is that what happened on Wednesday has never before happened in a large industrialized nation. Frankly speaking, we are now in unchartered territory. Well, almost.

Canada nearly runs out of weed after legalization

Canada can’t keep up with demand for newly legal weed. Four days after the country put marijuana legalization into effect nationally, retail shops are nearly sold out.

“It’s a mess. The supply is just a mess,” Patrick Wallace, owner of the Alberta shop Waldo’s 420 Store, told CBC.

Canada’s Parliament voted to legalize marijuana in June, and that decision went into effect on Wednesday, with differing rules across Canada’s provinces. The newly legal industry is expected to be worth $6.5 billion in annual sales.

Which Canadian marijuana stock will enjoy a bigger bump from its NYSE listing -- Aphria or Aurora?

Maybe Wall Street should be called "Weed Street." Big Canadian marijuana grower Canopy Growth listed its stock on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) earlier this year. Now it's about to have company.

Aurora Cannabis (NASDAQOTH:ACBFF) begins trading on the NYSE on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Aphria (NASDAQOTH:APHQF) filed last week to list its stock on the NYSE.
