U.S border patrol warning travelers from Canada with marijuana

U.S. Customs and Border protection says border officers in Montana are intercepting travelers from Canada who are in possession of marijuana.

Two Americans were also recently arrested after admitting to having a marijuana pipe and biying marijuana in Canada. Hash oil and other declared items were also in their vehicle.

Border officials say although recreational marijuana may be legal in Canada and some U.S. states, it is reminding travelers that pot remains illegal in most of the U.S.

It says Canadians working in the marijuana industry coming to the U.S. for reasons unrelated to the marijuana industry will generally be allowed entry.

Canada is the pot-stock capital of the world — but a U.S. market is catching up

Canada has a challenger to its status as the pot-stock capital of the world — the scrappy over-the-counter market in the U.S.

There are now 136 cannabis-related securities on OTC Markets Group Inc.’s main and venture market. That compares with 144 companies on Canadian exchanges.

Only 5 of 51 recreational cannabis stores open in Saskatchewan three weeks after legalization

Saskatchewan's marijuana business continues to be an uphill struggle for its retailers nearly three weeks after legalization.

Only five stores are currently open in the province. SLGA has issued permits to just nine of the 51 winners of the provincial lottery that decided who could open a recreational pot shop.

David Morris with SLGA said there are a lot of pieces to getting that permit approved and that some are getting close. "It's a big undertaking, there's work that a lot businesses have to do on their own, including getting municipal zoning approval and meeting any sort of requirements that municipalities may have. They also need to work on construction, securing the business, plus the SLGA permitting requirements," Morris said.

The misconceptions of marijuana

After years of debate, marijuana is finally legal in Canada. On Oct. 17, the first dispensaries opened across the country. This is a massive step toward not only making pot safer and more accessible, but also ensuring a degree of product quality that couldn’t be guaranteed in an unregulated market. That being said, I believe significant progress is still needed in regard to the elimination of the stigma associated with marijuana use.

Certainly, cannabis is by no means a product without fault. Just like everything else, overuse of marijuana can have serious side-effects. The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry noted that acute cannabis consumption at a young age has been linked with the inhibition of psychomotor skills, short-term memory, and minor cognitive functions.

Pot is a banned substance in sport despite little evidence it enhances performance

During his lengthy figure skating career, Dylan Moscovitch had to learn how to deal with immense pressure.

He also had to deal with the physical rigours of the sport. He navigated both successfully, retiring earlier this year after a career that included multiple podium finishes, Canadian championships and an Olympic silver medal.

There were lots of things Moscovitch did (all legal) during his career to gain a physical and mental edge.

Cannabis was never one of them.

"I don't think I would make it through a program," Moscovitch laughed when asked if he ever contemplated skating high.

3 Canadian marijuana stocks being overlooked by the market?

Today we have uncovered three Canadian marijuana stocks trading at low 12-month forward Enterprise Value to Sales ratios.

All the companies we have selected trade below 4x EV/Sales, potentially offering investors a better value play. For comparison, Canopy Growth Corp. (TSX:WEED) trades at a 12-month forward EV/Sales multiple of 22x, while Aphria trades at a multiple of 13x. As such, for investors looking for value in an industry plagued with high valuations, these companies may be a good place to start. Note: All metrics reflect closing prices as at November 1, 2018.

Is Aurora Cannabis the best pot stock to buy now?

There’s no sugar coating it: Cannabis stocks have had a tough ride in the second half of October. Collectively, the group was hammered as the overall markets took a hit. Surprisingly though, many cannabis names held up fairly well — Aurora Cannabis (NYSE:ACB) included.

That’s as recreational marijuana became legal in Canada in mid-October. Several stocks broke out just ahead of the event, only to reverse lower and join the major selling theme of the market. It set up as one great sell-the-news event, something we weren’t surprised about when we looked at Canopy Growth(NYSE:CGC) earlier in the month.

Cannabis legalization could force hike in car insurance rates

The legalization of cannabis on October 17 was a huge day for Canada, but for drivers it has created a lot of questions. Like alcohol, cannabis is considered a substance that impairs your ability to drive, but what constitutes ‘impairment’ is somewhat unclear right now, and impairment rules differ between police forces across Canada.
