Chris Christie on legal marijuana: Enjoy it while you can
Those enjoying their freedom to indulge in legal marijuana consumption in states like Colorado, Washington, Oregon and Alaska had better take advantage now, because Chris Christie is coming for you.
“If you’re getting high in Colorado today, enjoy it,” the New Jersey governor said at a town-hall meeting at the Salt Hill Pub in Newport, New Hampshire, according to Bloomberg. “As of January 2017, I will enforce federal laws.”
That view isn’t exactly a populist one, as a majority of Americans favor the legalization of recreational marijuana and have since 2013. However, according to Pew, that is a view that resonates with Republicans — just 39 percent of that demographic favors legalization of marijuana.
But taking an anti-marijuana stance may be a political hazard for Christie if he is looking to appeal to the millennial voting block, a demographic that he and his party have failed to excite....
