UK: Minor cannabis users "not priority"

Derbyshire's police and crime commissioner has said minor cannabis users are not a "priority" for the force.

Alan Charles has said austerity cuts to police budgets had forced Derbyshire police to reassess its priorities.

In an interview with the Guardian, Mr Charles said: "The severity of the funding cuts mean that we can't keep policing every single issue as we have done in the past.

"If people are using cannabis discreetly in their own homes, in private, I would not expect the chief to make that a priority.”

He said the force would always target organised criminals producing large amounts of drugs.

Merced police shut down alleged marijuana dispensary

The Merced Police Department served search warrants Friday and shut down Kiona’s Farm’acy in downtown Merced, alleging the business operated as a marijuana dispensary.

The police also ordered an investigation into business owner Lakisha Jenkins for possible tax evasion.

But Jenkins says her business is a nonprofit and agriculture cooperative that has been operating in California for more than a decade. Though the Farm’acy does sell cannabis to some members, who Jenkins said mostly are cancer patients, it also sells hundreds of herbs, teas and organic produce. Jenkins calls it a “holistic health center.”

She said the Merced Police Department and Merced County Sheriff’s Department eradicated a cannabis garden Sunday in a raid.

UK: Our police have gone to pot

Why on earth are Durham police no longer going to prosecute cannabis farmers?

Despite the medical evidence that cannabis causes psychosis, Durham police have announced that they will no longer prosecute those growing “small quantities” for personal consumption. Apparently, numerous other forces take the same view, but haven’t had the front to admit it.

Police rule out going easy on cannabis users who grow their own drugs at home in Coventry

Police in Coventry say there are no plans to stop prosecuting low-level cannabis growers after another force said it was no longer a priority.

Durham Constabulary said they would now only step in if cannabis growing was blatant, or on a commercial scale.

Instead small scale growers could be cautioned and have their plants removed so they don’t face prosecution.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said there were no plans to follow Durham’s lead.

Should we relax our stance on cannabis growing?

She said: “The decision to seek a prosecution around cannabis production very much depends on the evidence, but there is no specific policy in place not to prosecute these type of offences.”

Milton Borough has become the third Valley municipality to support medical marijuana in Pennsylvania.

Neither Meckley nor Swartz could be reached for comment.

Marijuana: This is How Presidential Hopeful Scott Walker Wants to Tackle the Issue

If he were elected president, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker says he would enforce the federal law that bans the use and sale of marijuana, which includes enforcing it in the states which have legalized it.

During a radio interview with KTRS 550 on Wednesday, Walker said he believes the legalization of marijuana is a states’ rights issue, but if there is a federal law that makes its use and sale illegal, then that law must be enforced:
