The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is temporarily suspending its marijuana cultivation and distributing facilities and is destroying its existing crop as leaders seek clarification on regulations from the federal government, according to the tribe's lawyer.

Seth Pearman said the suspension is pivotal to the continued success of the marijuana venture and that tribal leadership is confident that after getting clarification from the U.S. Department of Justice, "it will be better suited to succeed."

Marijuana business school seeks to prepare small business owners for legalization

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A failed attempt to legalize marijuana in Ohio loomed large at a so-called "cannabis academy" held Saturday in Cleveland, but speakers urged attendees to not give up and to prepare for eventual legalization of the drug.

During the event, which was put on by ComfyTree Enterprises at the FirstMerit Convention Center, speakers from several groups put forth plans to either decriminalize or legalize marijuana in the coming year.

Jacob Wagner, an attorney and organizer for Legalize Ohio 2016, said his organization will seek legalization next year without the use of a mascot such as Buddie, a part cannabis plant and part superhero that traveled the state as part of the failed Issue 3 campaign.

DEA Chief Says Medical Marijuana Is A Joke, This Is Why He's Wrong

This morning, CBS posted a series of quotes from the newly appointed DEA chief Chuck Rosenberg regarding the legitimacy of medical marijuana. In his statement, he says that marijuana is not medicinal, and that smoking it has never been shown to be a safe or effective form of treatment for various conditions.

“What really bothers me is the notion that marijuana is also medicinal — because it’s not. We can have an intellectually honest debate about whether we should legalize something that is bad and dangerous, but don’t call it medicine —that is a joke.”

A Press Release From Gaia's Garden regarding the recent recall

First and foremost, we at Gaia's Garden wish to apologize to our industry partners and colleagues, and especially our customers and patients. The recall of some of our products is very disappointing. We pride ourselves on both the effectiveness and safety of our products, and it is upsetting that this managed to occur despite our diligent efforts to produce only the highest quality and fully compliant products. While we were not the source of the contaminated cannabis, we take full responsibility for the products we produce. Although disappointing, this recall has already led us to take extra steps in validating all cannabis on intake and to continue going the extra mile to ensure that any cannabis we use in production is fully compliant, tested and safe for consumption.

Dreaming of the billion-dollar high in California’s marijuana green rush

It is Friday night and I am standing on the doorstep of my San Francisco apartment looking down in disbelief at the neatly packaged, vacuum-sealed bag of green-grey marijuana buds in my hands which has just been delivered by a friendly and courteous driver, 16 minutes after it was ordered online. An eighth of an ounce (3.5g) of Purple Platinum cost $25 after a $20 promotional discount. The payment was cash only. The label lists the strain – apparently a classic of the state’s marijuana-growing region – along with the retail dispensary that supplied it. Everything is legal.

Meaningful Work Should Be Every CEO’s Top Priority

I was speaking this week with a new CEO of a new public company that is just being spun off from their parent company. Imagine all the important tasks on his plate involving investors and customers. And yet he told me his top priority is getting his employees engaged in the mission of their new company and helping them see how their industrial products are really becoming technology products and playing an important role in the lives of their customers.

He’s not alone. Gallup tells us that 87% of global employees are disengaged, so it should be the top priority for every CEO.

New England Cannabis Network brings medical marijuana event to Portland

This weekend, the region’s largest medical marijuana convention series makes its first sojourn north to Maine. The New England Cannabis Network will hold the two-day event at the University of Southern Maine, giving the public the opportunity to engage with medical marijuana dispensaries, doctors and caregivers, as well as more than 60 local and national cannabis industry businesses and retailers with products for sale.

A previously planned convention in Maine was pushed back due to scheduling troubles, according to Marc Shepard, co-founder of NECANN, but the success of earlier shows in Boston and Providence encouraged their push to have it here.
