Tweed shrugs off competition from marijuana home growers

Canadians who use cannabis for medical purposes will soon be able to grow their own weed under new rules outlined by the federal government on Thursday. But a licensed producer based in Smiths Falls, Ont., isn't worried about having to fend off competition from medical marijuana users intent on producing their own plants.

"People could decide to grow their own," said Bruce Linton, founder and CEO of Tweed. "But they prefer to buy from a lawful, properly produced, safe supplier."

Local SEO Tips for Small Cannabis Business Owners

By Celeste Miranda
It all started with the maps listings in results. That was a game changer back in the day. So many businesses didn’t “deserve” to be there, they just were. That got under people’s skin for a long time, even still today, as it’s still somewhat valid.
Enter the Google Penguin update when they tried to merge the map listings with traditional SEO. That made a bit more sense for local SEO.
Often you see these big lists, like “the 100 most important factors in the Google algorithm” or something like that. Most people do not even know what that means. So what is the typical small business to do? What are the most important 3 or 4 things you can do for local SEO?

Illinois: Medical marijuana grows under strict conditions as industry expands

In a warehouse in Joliet, hundreds of marijuana plants sway under high-intensity lights, taking in carbon dioxide-rich air, sucking up a constant feed of nutrients and bristling with buds.

Like Olympic athletes, the plants are rigorously trained and intensively pampered. Tiny predator bugs patrol the surface of the vegetation, hunting down any pests. Workers prune stems and leaves to put all the plants' energy into buds that produce the drug's euphoric and medicinal effects. The process churns out 200 pounds of high-grade pot every month.

High-End Dining: Are Marijuana Meals The Next Big Foodie Trend?

"Just as we treat a glass of wine with dinner, this is how I'm treating cannabis—as an accent to the meal."

That's Chris Sayegh describing his approach to cooking. The Los Angeles chef prepares elaborate multicourse dinner menus, with foie gras custard, citrus-cured salmon, and pomegranate sorbet—all infused with cannabis extracts.

Sayegh calls himself "The Herbal Chef," which is, obviously, THC for short. "Everything is subtle," he says, describing his use of weed as if it were thyme. "That way, you can enjoy the entirety of the meal without getting overwhelmed."

Judge deals blow to Starbuds in bid to keep Denver marijuana grow license

A Denver District Court judge has dealt Starbuds a setback in its fight against the city’s first-ever denial of a routine cultivation license renewal.

In late June, the city’s top licensing official sided with neighbors in Elyria-Swansea who argued that the marijuana chain’s small recreational marijuana grow operation — located above its original dispensary at 4690 Brighton Blvd. — was a detriment to the working-class area’s quality of life and hindered its prospects for improvement.
