This 26-year-old went from selling ads at Google to creating a stunning marijuana product line

A candy-colored pack of marijuana joints from Lola Lola, with its quirky characters splashed across the box, looks more like a prop from a Katy Perry music video than drug paraphernalia.

Its quirky, good-vibes feeling is exactly what creator Michael Garganese, Jr., is going for.

"We wanted to create something that you would feel comfortable leaving accidentally on your kitchen table. If Mom or Dad finds it, the conversation you get to have around that package is very different than if they find your black sack [of weed] under the bed," Garganese says.

"It's like, 'Honey, what is this?' 'Well, Mom, that's the way that cannabis is sold these days.'"

What's Next for the Pet-Friendly Cannabis Industry?

Global interest in the fledging market for medicinal cannabis products created specifically for pets is growing like never before. Born of little more than experimentation among those desperately trying to find ways and means to treat dogs and other pets naturally, CBD extracts are finding their way into all manner of doggy treats and tidbits.

Kat Donatello was one such individual, who began experimenting with CBD baked into dog biscuits as a means by which to help relax her hyperactive Labrador. “I started spending my winters baking dog biscuits,” she said, adding that “It just kind of took the edge off of him.” So successful were our experiments that she went on to launch her own CBD dog biscuit business in early 2016.

California Firm Acquiring Bloomfield Industries in Medical Marijuana Shakeup

Bloomfield Industries, one of the five companies licensed to sell medical marijuana in New York, is being acquired by MedMen, a California-based marijuana management and consulting firm.

The change in ownership comes just two days after New York State’s medical marijuana program marked its first year, amid cries from executives that the market is not viable and reassurances from the state Department of Health that the program remains on course.

Pennsylvania Medical Pot Has yet to Impact Agriculture Business

There was little obvious sign of the newest addition to the state's agricultural landscape at the Pennsylvania Farm Show on Monday.

While the costs of cultivating medical marijuana make it an unlikely business venture for most farmers, its production is expected to get a lot more notice within the industry.

Pennsylvania became the 24th state to legalize medical marijuana for the treatment of 17 medical conditions last April. The Department of Health has been rolling out regulations, with the goal of having the drug available for patients next year.

The next steps of a burgeoning industry that grows, processes and dispenses the drug will be hard to ignore.

Canada's Marijuana Industry Needs Innovation to Thrive, Not Protection

The Task Force on Marijuana Legalization and Regulation did not say, “create a marijuana marketing board.” Yet its recommendations would, if implemented, effectively impose a supply management system on cannabis. Suppliers would be licensed, and subject to production limits. These controls would be set so as to “align supply with likely demand.”

A marijuana marketing board would protect existing producers, and keep prices high. For the Task Force, this was precisely the point. They wanted to encourage “market diversity,” create “a space for smaller-scale production” and prevent “the development of monopolies or large conglomerates.”

Cannabis Companies Struggle to Trademark Marijuana-Based Products

Due to federal illegality, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office refuses to register trademarks for products that contain cannabis.

As cannabis makes itself safely at home in 28 different states now, federal illegality has remained the biggest thorn in the side of the recreational and medical marijuana industry. Not only have unchanged federal laws prevented cannabusinesses from obtaining adequate banking services, they also caused problems for those seeking to register trademarks for their marijuana-based products.
