The Timing of Horizons $HMMJ Could Not of Been Worse

Timing is everything…

This phrase can be applied to an infinite number of situations but today we want to focus on Horizons Medical Marijuana Life Sciences ETF (HMMJ.TO: TSX) (HMLSF: OTC).

When it comes to investing, timing and selectivity are two major keys for success. Although this is especially true for marijuana stocks, the ETF missed the mark…badly.

From a timing standpoint, the ETF could not have launched at a worse time as marijuana stocks were trading near their 52-week highs and it is down more than 15% since it started trading.

High Times was acquired for $70 million by a group of investors including Damian Marley

Venture capitalist Adam Levin led the $70 million acquisition through his new firm, Oreva Capital, partnering with Damian Marley's newly-public company Stony Hill, Ean Seeb, the founder of Denver Relief Consulting, a Colorado dispensary, and 17 other partners in the cannabis, real estate, and technology space.

"High Times, to me, is the Coca-Cola of the industry," Levin told Business Insider. "And obviously, cannabis is one of the fastest growing industries today."

Damian Marley, Bob Marley's son as well as a musician and cannabis investor, said he had used High Times when he was "growing herb" in high school to differentiate between male and female plants (the female plants produce THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis).

Cannabis Oil Distillate: A Different Kind of Concentrate

A drop of distillate sits perched on the edge of a dabbing tool. Taut like a raindrop, this viscus and opaque orb glimmers as it rests within the concave folds of titanium. Encased within this golden drop of goodness is a semi-translucent, 99% pure decarboxylated and distilled tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) sap. Dollar for dollar, this morsel of oil is worth more by weight than just about any other consumable substance on the market, and for good reason: Cannabis oil distillates are arguably the future of cannabis concentrates.

Cannabis Growers Overcome the Powerful Scent

Cannabis stinks, its opponents claim, comparing the scent of buds at harvest to skunks.

But beyond its fragrant nose, cannabis enterprise carries an aroma welcome even to many who shun pot: the smell of money.

Cash gushes from the emerging industry. It’s expected to soar to billions of dollars a year in California, with Santa Rosa’s CannaCom Valley at the heart of North Bay cannabis commerce. But cannabis operators must reckon with the reek, which makes some neighbors smoking mad.

At public hearings on cannabis policy held by Sonoma County’s board of supervisors, residents who live near cultivation complained to the board about its pungent smell — especially at harvest. Supervisors responded by banning cultivation in rural-residential zones.
